Agreed. And now they have a shiny new trim shop

+1 for Allon White's trim shop. Just be careful wondering into the showroom and looking at shiny new Morgans!

As the 4/4 has been regularly used for competition it is required to have duplicated throttle return springs ('Belt and Braces' .... and having made a trip to A&E courtesy of a stuck throttle while racing my single seater it's a rule I'm happy to follow!)

The previous owner in his inimitable style had fitted a spring bracket made out of an old bit of strip steel that looked like it had been chewed to length by rats before being fortuitously bent to approximate shape by being accidentally stepped on by a rhinocerous.

As I'm a big fan of TPAU (not the '80s pop group but The Pursuit of Avoiding Ugliness) ... I stuck a bit of hex brass stock I'd had on the shelf (having been gifted it by a model engineering pal decades ago) into the lathe and turned down a replacement bottom spring mount .... drilled and tapped to 5/16 UNF at the hex end it neatly screws onto the protruding portion of one of the inlet manifold studs.

Hopefully neater and nicer (and acceptable to the scrutineers)

You have given me an idea.

My spring holder looks like the product of the same rat.

I concur - mine had a really fugly bracket. I decided the whole set up was grim, so made a new one:

I just love a nicely crafted bracket! Nice work chaps.

Phil .... it's my intention to work my way through the whole linkage bit by bit .... yours looks good both from neatness and engineering viewpoints.

After 22 years of a fuel gauge growing steadily less accurate, to the point of it not registering anything at all for the last few years, I resolved to do a bit of investigating.

Out with the sender unit, off with the cover, and I was confronted with this:

So a new one has been duly ordered from SVC at the princely sum of £40. I ran my tank as dry as I dared (270 miles) on the way back from Portsmouth on Tuesday, and did a dip test to see how much fuel I had left - 80mm. With a tank of around 700mm x 300mm at the base, that's around 17 litres. I don't know exactly how far off the bottom of the tank the fuel pickup sits, but I reckon I've probably got a good 10 litres in reserve if I set the new sender to register empty at this level.

Well done for finding the solution, and it's helpful to see a pic of the actual unit rather than a diagram.
