They are incredibly simple units, and what I found surprising is that the cover doesn't have any kind of seal, it's just held by three tags which bend over. So they must work when immersed in petrol. I haven't yet figured out why the windings are arranged to give a non-linear resistance curve, it would seem that this mght be a cause of the frequently-reported feature that the tanks. shows full for longer before plunging quickly to empty. I'm now wondering whether this was designed because the float moves in an arc?

When I get the new sender I'll set up a test rig to see if I can get a proper linear relationship between needle position and float position.

Over the last few weeks been making a new gear knob, a bit taller than the last one. Now got it mounted, test drives OK.

Removed all eight brake shoes for relining. Did remember to use cable ties to keep the pistons in the cylinders. Didn't fancy having brake fluid all over the place.

Not today but a short time ago I removed the Morgangpark steering wheel for the 4th time to make the horn work again.

I have to say that here in Germany I feel a little unsafe in traffic without the horn.
Morgans are not very well known in Germany and are often seen by other drivers as very old and therefore slow cars and are often misjudged.

That's why a horn - after good brakes - is important in Germany...

The first and second time I took off the steering wheel during my holidays in Denmark to fix the slip ring of the horn. The second time I noticed that the sliding contact had also broken off.

It must have looked funny when I took the steering wheel off, right in front of the Morganpark workshop, to replace the sliding contact.

In the meantime, Frank Schauer (helpful and friendly as always) glued a better slip ring onto my Motolita steering boss!

Made myself a sidescreen bag using my daughters sewing machine. Doesn't look too bad, but quite fiddly as I wanted it to follow the same shape as a genuine one. Plus I was baking it up as I went along. If I had to do it again, I'd be able to make a better job, but it works so pleased to have saved myself a few hundred quid.

Spent a pleasant day fitting the relined brake shoes. A short run to return the hub puller to my local indy. Now I have to readjust the brakes, the rears are a bit tight, and the fronts too easy.
That will be another day though.
As a matter of interest does any other old Morgan have this arrangement for the handbrake. It doesn't appear in any of the documentation I have (Original Morgan Instruction book and John Dowdeswell's Workshop Manual.

I ought to replace this piece as it was cracked. My local indy welded it, and ground it to shape.

This piece fits in the box on the slave cylinder, and is pulled out by the handbrake, pushing up two pegs which force up the shoes onto the drum.
I cannot find the piece on BHM parts list nor on Mervyn Rutters website.

Unfortunately, well it has to be done. Put hard top on for winter.
It seems some super glue has dripped on to it during storage. Just a small drip, but "tinternet" says use acetone to remove it, but won't that damage the paint? How it got on it I have no idea.I have used some 9000grit finisher, that has virtually removed it but just a little mark left I'd like to remove.
