I rather think that the royal family have been doing that to themselves for centuries. With the single notable exception of the recently departed Queen, they seem to have been a right collection of inbred dissolutes, with a quite extraordinary range of 'unusual' political and moral preferences and a more than somewhat loose interpretation of marriage commitments.
