Can anyone tell me if Limited Slip Diffs were standard on later 4/4's?

After nearly 4 years ownership, Ive only just found out my 2012 4/4 Sport has a LSD. My question is were LSDs fitted as standard on 4/4's, Plus 4's and other Morgans too from a certain date or was it a case of Morgan fitting whatever rear axle they had in stock at the time?

Thanks Richard, I had already read that thread but there's no definitive answer as to if LSD became a standard fitting and if so when. Specifically on the 4/4 Sport but perhaps across the range.

I have never seen LSD advertised as a standard fitment in any Morgan specification sheets for new cars, nor is LSD on the options list for 2012 onward 4/4's
I have been told that LSD became standard around 2014, but if so that doesn't explain my 2012 car having it.

My 2009 4/4 Sport has an open dif and I have been considering an LSD upgrade, but have been advised they are all noisy by comparison with the open dif.
If you have an LSD, is it noisy? If it isn't, I want one!

I have an LSD, which I don't think is noisy...but there again, it was before it was rebuilt about 4 years ago. It was of great benefit when I sprinted and hillclimbed, but don't think that it is of much benefit for normal road use.

Well reading between the lines Rob it appears to have been an (unlisted?) option on Plus 4 although some claim to have one fitted they didn't spec. Looking back at parts books from 2006 onwards to end of production, the same 3.73 widebeam axle was used on both 4/4 and Plus 4 part # MRA0031, so unlikely to be LSD although Roadsters were. This of course doesn't concur with your info.

Is it possible the low ratio 4.11 axle was used on the limited production performance models and this had LSD?

The LSD issue, like most things Morgan is shrouded in haze. It was said that at some point in long door production that all axles became LSD.

The only way to be sure is to jack the back end up and turn one wheel. If the other wheel rotates the same way its an LSD. If it rotates the opposite way it isn't.

I've had three LSDs. None were noisy.

PS. No such thing as definitive with Morgan production. They were built in batches.........of one.
My 2012 Plus 4 had an LSD.
