Thanks Arwyn, Thought it probably was but didn't want to get a die until I was sure. Unfortunately I don't have the facility to drill/tap the thimble. I'll find another way to secure it. A smear of threadlock on the thimble threads, and just remember to occasionally check for tightness.

Pleased I decided to renew them as the old ratchet does look worn. The only problem I had was that the pawl was a tight fit so I had to lap it using fine valve grinding compound. Most of it was probably old dried and hardened grease but still took a while. See comparison here ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2023/01/28/Handbrake-ratchet.jpeg)

Car wouldn't start flat battery, most unusual as the car is garaged and used regularly although not in the last 3 weeks due to the weather. Battery (Bosch) only 2 years old. Took quite awhile to get enough charge to start and then I had to drive miles and miles to make sure it would start again I guess it was the exceptionally cold weather lately. Must it more.

Our car is not driven on a regular basis as it has no weather gear, just Brooklands Aero screens and a toneau cover, so I have it plugged into a low amperage battery tender. Works great!

The immobiliser circuit will draw a bit of juice, best to pop it on a conditioner for a couple of days every week of so, Richard V6 has some good recommendations

Keith even though you use your car regularly if the journey is not long enough the battery will not be fully replenished. This is particularly relevant during the winter when extra loads on the electrical system will compromise the battery charge current. A situation can develop where for example the battery is only recharged to 90% of it's remaining capacity then next time on same trip only 90% of 90% and so on in a downwards spiral. Given the age of battery I would try to reverse this situation by a series (three or four) 24 hour charges using a full smart battery charger of at least 4 amps capability and not a conditioner. This should remove some of the plate sulphation that is presently limiting it's capacity due to above scenario. Long term and irrespective of cars usage a 24 hour top up charge say once a month should suffice. FWIW the immobiliser draws very little current and my car with 4.5 year old battery has just started car after a month without use, despite not always practising what I preach

Richard, I think you are correct I have just been doing local trips to the shops no more than 10 miles mostly with two starts. I should know better as I know it takes approx 20 mins run time to put back the charge used to start it. I have a battery charger and now an Optimate 5 on order.

You will certainly notice the difference once you ditch those old Continentals.
Vredestein T-Trac 2 tyres were a huge improvement on my 4/4. Looking forward to your reaction once you get them on the road.
