The EU's decided to allow car manufacturers selling fewer than 1000 cars a year to continue selling internal combustion after the 2035 hybrid & large scale ICE ban.

The UK's still in discussion with manufacturers

Either way, with the Super 3 being a trike & not a car, you'd think that should allow Morgan to keep selling petrol engined cars in the EU. Maybe the Uk will follow suit?

I know Ferrari wanted a 5000 car a year limit.
But a sensible, pragmatic solution.

As long as you get the fuel but it is better than an outright ban.

Hopefully it will be the same in the UK ... we have a worldwide reputation for 'garagistas' and their mad automotive creations ... it would be stupidity to kill all those niche builders, especially as a lot of their output goes to export.

If it's the same here then Morgan, at 850 cars a year, would have a 20% expansion headroom .

Good but perhaps not surprising news.

iirc a benefit of moving to the CX chassis was faster assembly than the trad's chassis, so Morgan could build (again, iirc) 1400+ cars annually with the same staff.
And buying back the field was said to be to allow for expansion.

Indeed a SMMT report lists 21 'low volume' manufacturers - though that includes Aston, Bentley, Lotus, McLaren, Rolls Royce, who you'd think would all exceed 1000 cars a year production. But maybe they don't sell that many in the EU.

Customer .... I wonder if there's scope for an 'on paper' split of the three-wheel and four-wheel production that might give scope to a doubling of their allowance? .... my guess the cutoff would be 1000 cars in total rather than 1000 cars into a particular market such as the EU .... otherwise I think there are 190 ish countries in the World and that's not a niche manufacturer.

Hope our lot see sense and don't get terrified into abandoning our small producers by a bit of noisy green publicity.

I would imagine that the critical bit is more likely to be fuel availability? There's no shortage of engineering outfits capable of building engines.
