Depends on the price and how much patience you have for me.

If I wanted to spec it to my exact colour combination and was comfy secluding £140000 (tell me it won't go up in price !) then the Aero SS hard top sounds good. I would expect to see £40000 go over the first few years as they hit the same rough price as the AeroMax.

The Aero SS has grown on me from when I first looked at the back end however the AeroMax remains the one that would get my money. I would just have to wait for the right spec to come up. It would save me £40000 at current prices which I would use to keep it in petrol and road tax the way this government is going.

For me the AeroMax remains the icon, of any maker, market or model. If I could bring myself to ruin one by doing the mileage I do in my daily car I would do it in a flash. I could not bring myself to do this to one of the rare examples. Not yet anyway, every year the itch gets stronger.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Not sure I agree, beauty of the Aeromax is what it was. Limited number specially made for Prince Sturdza and released in the centenary year.

A fixed head SS loses the open air naturally but I would guess is quieter (not that mine is particularly noisy) and may be cooler for hotter countries?? But most importantly has a huge boot, ie more practical. I love the shape of the rear also but then I am biased smile

Cheers

Hmmmm. It's a strange thing that the SS lost the elegance of the Max in the rear quarters. Something to do with the B post treatment and lack of the B->C rear window.
If I had the money and the space I would have a Max. It's a fantastic looker, even the baby blue one. grin2

I have understood that the MMC promised that there would only be 100 production Aeromaxes? which was why I assumed that the SS was produced rather than an Aeromax Mk2.
(I'm a bit concerned about the sheer number of new or new variants that the MMC is producing, - I personally think that that is one of the 3 reasons TVR went under)

Were the other two reasons the Speed 6 engine and the Russian kid?

Moving upmarket without the quality and an inherently flawed engine were the two big ones for me, neither of which Morgan has done. It's certainly not a case of all mouth, no trousers and I'm sure production is scaleable to prevent a similar scenario...

Hi Dave

I reckon:

1) Moving away from the original enthusiast market to try and catch the yuppie market of the time. This market is less fault tolerant.

2) introducing the wonderful and expensive AJP8 which reduced profit margins and then the 20k life AJP6 which moved the TVR reputation from an unjust reputation for unreliability to a just reputation for unreliability. (With further development the AJP6 is now a wonderful engine)

3) The above led to a reduction in sales and profits so TVR seemed to introduce multiple and rapid model changes in order to tempt the market. In reality competition within its own product range confused the clients and those who may have been tempted thought "lets just wait for the next model".

I am also (nearly) alone in thinking that without Smolenski TVR would have foundered sooner. He did focus on build quality (which IMHO was not a huge issue with TVR - production design was the problem). But did not do what in hindsite (....) was blindingly obvious. Drop the AJPs for an LS2 and downsize the range to 2 (possibly 3) models

Brian
