You're right, add that to the enormous grant MMC received to develop it and it only cost the taxpayer a few million....

The Yellow EV was a Morgan skunk-works project Jon in about 2013/14 (from memory!) just to show what was possible and unusually, it did have a normal Plus 8 gearbox. You are right about the subsequent partner who was developing an EV version of the M3W going belly-up and they were also developing a carbon fibre M3W body too.

There was no “enormous grant” for the Yellow EV which was never destined to be a production model…

MMC were awarded a 6 million pound grant in 2016 the yellow one was part of that projectb wasn't it part of the application?

I was wrong on the date as this article was published in 2012 when the car was exhibited at Geneva https://newatlas.com/something-old-something-new-the-morgan-plus-e/21736/ as I said a project put together in the skunk works featuring some chassis alteration by Radshape, an electric motor and controls from Zytek, a complete body etc from MMC = Morgan Plus 8 EV.

It’s difficult to see how a 2016 grant financed a car built in 2012! 😉

I understood that they got the grant by doing that car first and promising proper development of it. Then the development switched to the three wheeler which stayed immobile, after a few publicity runs round a track.

However you look at it we financed 6 million to the factory for cars that didn't happen.

Those were happy days... smile

(joining late!)

... the new dealer *couldn't give me a trade in valuation* on a 2017 Aero 8, even after I'd explained what an Aero 8 is - which does indicate their interest in current model cars.

... iirc at the time of the buyout there was talk of much reduced production times for CX cars, which would allow volume to double. I guess that hasn't happened yet, as they've had to build so many CX cars twice :-(

... BMW now have so many hybrid powertrain options I'd be amazed if there wasn't a hybrid CX chassis car running around.
If you repeated the Aero approach in 2000 - making it the differently-styled, forward looking model, priced relatively high & in low volume, then logically the first hybrid would be an Aero.
& if it were me, to really distinguish it from the CX trad style, I'd update & reinvent the AeroMax/Coupe concept, with hybrid power.

The life car project and EVA GT looked good.
I think the way forward is something other than the trad body on the new chassis.
Sadly the trad is dead............

I know I keep on about it, but not pushing forward with more development of the EVA GT was a mistake

Far more likely to attract the younger more affluent owners that MMC 'think' the CX will do
