We stopped buying Hunter Wellies 18 years ago. They were overtaken by others and failed to adapt. Grubb make a much more useful welly for us horse owners now. And they are lined. And they last 2-3 years whereas the Hunters barely managed a single winter (I know, I am very hard on my boots!).

They fell apart quickly long before they shipped manufacturing to China. They were a fashion accessory not a useful stable aid. As an aside, a horsey chum captured the horse owners life very well the other day. Everything to do with horses is expensive, dirty, time-consuming, hard work or some combination of all four.

Even free though, they’re still over priced, like most retail consumer items, cheap flimsy muck! Sad to learn of the demise of Hunter, although, how you can go bust selling an entry grade product and silly fashion prices defies logic.

I've concluded that the "Morgan Image" is becoming more important than the product, rather like Harley Davidson used to be, a wonderful image and terrible products that were a travesty of what a motorcycle is supposed to be. A good business, it has to be said. The press have recently been carrying this story: A few days ago the Edinburgh-based company Hunter, makers of the Wellington boots long loved by aristocrats and festival-goers alike, announced they had gone into administration with debts of more than £100 million. Herein lies a cautionary tale for many a British heritage brand…….Their appeal? They were aspirational yet accessible, and their durability made them worth the three-figure price tag.……Though it is crucial that heritage brands move with the times, attracting new customers, the only way to do this is by refusing to compromise on quality."Apirational yet accessible" ? Today I received an email from MMC, offering a finance package https://morgan-motor.com/plus/plus-four/plus-four-finance/ Despite expiring in a week's time (Offer available on Morgan Plus Four ordered between 01/04/23 and 30/06/23 and registered by 30/09/23), I can't imagine there will be a rush to take-up the 3-year package on the Super4, requiring "only" £16K up-front, £500+ a month, and especially with a final payment looming after 36 months of £47,830 (manual) or £49,667 (auto).Sounds reasonable.....

If you had a mortgage then the extra £12,000 over 4 years for being about to leave and extra say £50,000 to £60,000 on the house probably means saving the same interest on your house as you are spending with Morgan. So not a bad deal but I always had the idea to only borrow for a house, pay it off and save up for cars, especially toy cars like a Morgan or Frontline. Lots of fun but really a luxury that borrowing for never made sense to me, however the younger generation seem happier to borrow than I am.
Back to the bike, I spent more on my last bike that the Pashley but cycling is a hobby and I like nice bikes, I have three bikes, Scott Spark dual suspension mountain bike, Fat bike with 4 inch tyres for the beach, desert trips and a road bike, both the road bike and mountain bike are Carbon fibre. The Pashley would make a nice commuting bike but looks overpriced for what it is.
