Ewan, this is not meant in a rude manner but I am intrigued by your comment about the shiny red thing.

You pay a fortune - the altenator goes and you are so affronted that you sell it back too them? One fault is enough to tip you over. So the expectations are that high? What am I missing as that is the polar opposite end of the fettlebodge spectrum and closer to where Plus Four/Six owners are likely to sit these days?

Sorry to hear about your Ferrari, in these type of situation I often think some things are just not meant to be. Increasingly, I find I'm less inclined towards acquiring possessions but more interested in acquiring experiences. I've had more than my fair share of cars and motorbikes and when I reflect on them, I find I was more hyped about the chase than the ownership experience and soon found reason not to like something and to move on. Sometimes the most simple pleasures in life, like a Walling's ice cream is worth the 60 mile round trip to buy from the diary where its produced.

I have always been an open cars type of guy, who would have the roof down all year round as long as it was dry. Increasingly, I've found the weather is changing, we have far more wet and overcast days compared to decades ago, which if you have a mohair hood unless it's bone dry you can't lower it and take advantage of the dry spells. So increasingly I was driving a convertible with the roof up, which goes against the grain, as you experience far more with open topped motoring. So I recently acquired a petrol Mercedes SLC and a diesel SLK for the Sue, with their folding metal roofs, its been a revelation as to the increase in open top motoring we can now achieve and enjoy as we can fold the roof down wet following a shower at the flick of a button, if the sun peaks out even for the briefest of moments. The benefits of seat heating and air scarf blowing warm air around your neck reduce any drafts and make the cabin a great place to be. I'm enjoying Sue's diesel SLK so much more than the petrol SLC that I've just sold the SLC and not sure what I will get next. I've had Mercedes cabriolets for decades, but they all came with a mohair roof which is increasingly less practical in these wetter days we get, as the hood is rarely dry enough to lower.

I sadly had to sell my Morgan Roadster 4 seater following a fall before Xmas as I couldn't get in as easily and extending my leg to depress the clutch was just too uncomfortable, which was very unfortunate as I had just got it performing and driving very well after nearly 2 years of ownership, it will be sadly missed.

When I reflect on my Morgan motoring to-date, There have been some get moments on some wonderful touring holidays and days out, but special moments tend to pale, when I reflect on the everyday downside of driving a Morgan all year round, especially for example if having to drive fast in heavy rain, with the side screen being sucked outwards and dealing with the water pouring in between the side screen gap and windscreen pillar, trying to avoid getting wet/soaked, so you don't turn up somewhere looking like drowned rats.

I never like tinkering with cars as I don't have the patience, I can disassemble anything but hate putting things back together as you invariably find you don't have the right tool at the most inconvenient moment, so I leave it to others with better knowledge, tools and experience than I possess in such things. Which means I put getter emphasis on car reliability, which not one of Morgan's great strengths. I'm watching with interest the reliability of the CX models post the recall, as an automatic version (so Sue can drive it) might best suit our needs, as without question driving a Morgan on a warm sunny day, is probably one of the few really rewarding experiences that few other cars can match, in other cars you turn up, in a Morgan you arrive.

Hi Richard, no loss of interest here as I only have entered the wonderful world of Morgan's since Feb this year, but a petrol head since I was 12 (don't ask, a long long long time)
I am curious about the lift you posted a photo of. Could you give me some more info as I am considering something that could stay put under the Morgan while it is parked in the garage. Also a lot I have seen are on the wrong side of £2k

I have had a similar experience like Ewan, I no longer drive around aimlessly like three years ago I spent whole days just driving around in the Eifel. Today I notice that my cars are much more in the garage. I don't know all the reasons, there will also be unconscious reasons, above all I can't enjoy carefree since covid at that time, then the Ukraine war… maybe it is also a certain saturation of a beautiful period of driving time. But it is very fun for us to enjoy purposeful trips with a destination in the Morgan. We were already in Italy this year for a week with the Morgan.

I used to ride my bike (Triumph) around just for the fun of it After the bike then the Morgans ...but somehow since COVID the fun of exploring has been sucked out of me. The Boxster helps, but it isn't the same.

The price makes me cry

I haven't lost my interest in cars and motorcycles, although I don't like much of the modern stuff anymore. Spent 3 days with the 1946 Chief and a tent in the Taunus over the weekend, it was nice despite the rain showers.

Go for an automatic PlusFour John, it will certainly add some rewarding experiences to your life! You only live.....once!🤷‍♂️👌🙋🏼‍♂️

Ruut, without question, you have to make the most of things whilst you can...there are no pockets in shrouds.. The automatic Plus Four seems the better balance for performance and economy in the current range.
