I have a 2006 4/4 70 th Anniversary édition with a 1800 Ford engine that was imported into Switzerland in 2007 with a Certifcate of Confirmity stating that the noise level at 4750 revs should be 88dB, after changing the silencer to part MEX1107 I still have a reading of 95.8dB . How do I reduce the dB ? I have been told by various sources to :
- try silencer MEX0175
- try silencer MEX1370
- use a dB killer
- have a silencer specially made
- add an additional silencer after the rear wheels….but which one fits/ works ?
- Librands acoustic trim in tail pipe ? Does it give sufficient reduction in dB ?

I need to find a solution before Oct 2 nd when the car will be retested. Feeling quite desperate! Thanks for any input

How sure are you of the noise reading? .... with a db scale that's not far off three times noisier than factory If true!!

Hello Andrew,

If you have the MEX1107 you have the straight through louder box. The baffled version is a the MEX1105.

Maybe not an option for you in Switzerland but i do have a nice MEX1105 (from a 2016 car) surplus to requirements that I bought second hand but not needed. At some point I was going to put it in the For Sale section for sale or exchange for a MEX1107 in similar condition.

The dB details are stated on the Certificate of Conformity which go with the car and these are the figures the various Swiss Cantons use to test the noise levels with their ‘official” testing équipement.

Noise reduction is quite simple. Take a steel wire sponge which is used to clean kitchen pots (no idea what is the perfect translation) and stuff it into the exhaust pipe. Did work well on my M3W when I had to reduce noise due to an official test
Maybe the drawing can explain my adaptation for the test. The distance holder was made of two little steel plates
