I was told the name, and that about 1000 were made. I just can't remember the name.

They also made the Genie. Decent cars for their times, full story at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbern

The Gilbern was my least reliable car. And needed constant fettling to keep running. And horribly thirsty on frosty mornings and short journeys, think 12mpg. Not that quick either, and no match for my V8MGB, but a quirky unique experience.

Many cars were sold in nearly finished condition to save on the purchase tax from memory.I remember a sergeant having one shipped over to Germany and some of us REME boys from the car club helped fit the axle engine steering box and beautifull walnut dash. It was a stunning looking car and that essex should give 20mpg. Em

I am not sure if it is just the photos but the rear seats look like they are very uncomfortable, unless you are able to bend yourself into a V-shape.

The rear seats are deeply recessed with a high tunnel between.

I think a worn twin choke carb was to blame Em, but on a run it would get 30+. And carb icing on cold mornings.

What the Gilbern taught me, was that what looked great on paper, wasn't so good in reality. The suspension was modified TR6 at the front and a five link rear axle with panhard rod. Adjustable coil over shocks all round. This was not as good as the much simpler set up on my MGB.

But a bucket list tick, and at the time the owners club was full of characters.
