Hi Guys

+8 1989 V8 Rover engine, Holley carbs fitted; no mogs; rad grille clear of badges etc.

I fill rad with 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water; new stat fitted; engine flushed thru 2ce.

Get into traffic and kenlowe kicks in....temp goes thru roof.

After 30-miles or son header tank of rad is empty - takes 1-2 litres to fill....expansion bottle no change in level

Suggestion as to problem please.

Are you sure that you put enough coolant in, did you measure it?
It's possible you have an air lock! The rad looks full but it may not be a full system.

If you are still topping up and have no leaks my guess is an airlock.

The older days we'd have left the radiator cap off (cold engine) and started it up and as it warmed up and the thermostat opened the water pump would push the coolant around and would force any air out and the coolant level would drop again. Then top up again and repeat.

Forgive me, Ray. You gave an incomplete description of your set up. Which Holley? Intake Manifold? What rad type? What exhaust system, stock or aftermarket twin? Kenlowe model? Where do you have your pressure cap, on the rad or "expansion bottle"?

However, I do not know of any setup using a 1989 Morgan 3.5 on a Holley 390 (or 600) and a Kenlowe that would NOT boil over in slow traffic. 😂 Want to cure that? L.
