The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that Mike Brewer's "de-coke" pellets don't work as advertised (which probably most of us already suspected).

[Linked Image]

We considered that Hamilton Direct Ltd had not shown that the pellets removed carbon deposits from vehicle engines, or that their use would result in restored lost performance and fuel economy or reduced emissions for most or all cars. We therefore concluded that the ad was misleading.

The ad breached CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 3.1 (Misleading advertising), 3.7 (Substantiation) and 3.47 (Endorsements and testimonials).

Action
We told Hamilton Direct Ltd not to claim or imply that their product would restore lost performance and fuel economy or reduce emissions unless they held robust substantiation.

These things have been around in one form or another at least since I've been driving (and no doubt much longer!) ... never worked then either ... made a lot of black smoke when you first started after that made you think carbon was being shifted but did nowt inside your engine.

Those tablets you put in your battery to rejuvenate it were sh*te as well !! 😀

What I'd like to see is an additive for my fuel tank that made the exhaust smell nicer. My car is precat and I'm getting increasingly concerned about the smell. I'm even considering an aftermarket catalytic designed for classic cars, no electronics.
Anyone had any experience of them?

Would have been preferable to rule against Mike Brewer altogether, never mind just the pellets! grin2

I’m considering using Cataclean fuel additive in a quest to improve emissions at MOT time. Anyone had any experience of using this?

Never tried this particular additive but I do add both forte cat cleaner and injector cleaner to a near empty tank of quality fuel like V power or Esso premium at MOT time. On the couple of occasions I've not done this the car needed a retest one of the times .

As a young and foolish motorcyclist I would regularly add a few drops of Castrol R to the fuel tank - made the exhaust smell good and made me feel great but probably not a good idea - I'm sure others here will have a view.
