Ok new car with a passenger side water leak through the door into carpet.

I presume this is a drain hole?? It’s blocked. No idea how I can get to it to successfully unblock it

Frustratingly it’s blocked with the sealant the use for the Perspex glass.

Sorry Viper not got a clue as to modern Morgan construction.

If the hole in your pic is a drain hole, then I might use a hand held twist drill a little under the size of the hole, twisting it with my fingers or perhaps old style carpenters hand operated drill to try to clear the sealant, taking care not to damage the perspex.

Though if there is indeed a drainage system chances are that other than the hole the rest of the system may be gunged up...?

I guess it takes time to resolve teething issues with a hand built car.

My mid 80`s +8 seems to have been reasonably water proof, even in the worst of weather over the years, so it should be possible to sort it out..?

BTW many a Porsche convertible leaks water even to the extent of destroying under-seat located ECU`s... EXPENSIVE..!

Yes the other side has a hole which is only partially blocked with silicone. I’ve cleared them out so will see how it goes. Pretty soaked in there. I have a particular hatred for water ingress.

Yes we have a 964 here which pools up under the bonnet. Dangerous under there as you say.

Aero leaks like a sieve too, not sure I can stop that.

Etype leaks through the door panels despite going to great lengths with carefully constructed membrane etc.

Hi Viper, I had the same on one side of our Plus Six, the external front drain hole was blocked by sealant which was a type of silicon used in locating and weather proofing the front perspex screen section. The outer front hole is a drain for the window channel, if its blocked the channel can fill with water and then can spill inward. You see this when driving in the wet or even washing the car.
Ours was rectified indirectly as we had to replace the front sidescreen perspex and the dealer made sure the new sealant did not block the drain hole.
What I can tell you is the sidescreen perspex is coated and if you scratch through it, there is no way to polish the scratch out, so the only fix is to replace the perspex. The hit is that you can not purchase just one side piece from the factory, you have to purchase a complete set which is very expensive.

As your car is new I would advise that the dealer sorts it for you.. Just seen that you have cleared it yourself.. so well done.. I would be careful when you clean the car as a sudden rush of water on the screen can overpower the drain hole and then it spills inward.

I guess soft tops will ever be at risk of letting in water, some more than others expectedly so..? I guess with a new out of the box vehicle much is down to modern expectations as the result of many years of robotically assembled vehicles and the very tight tolerances they can achieve...I guess the cost of a new Morgan may also play part of trying to balance against all else on the market, but then I guess one has to adopt a different mental attitude and set of priorities when buying a hand built sports car such as a Morgan...?

When I typed that my old Trad seems to have been reasonably water tight over the 20 or so years I have owned it, I expect the reason behind that was it was taken apart by a garage business owner and well experienced Morgan enthusiast, at a time when it had circa 8 k miles on the clock, it was then subjected to full strip down and nut and bolt rebuild to his standards and requirements. Fortunately for me he decided to part with it in time...

For sure "Classics" from the past can be restored in a restomod fashion to better withstand the effects of our climate, but it takes a certain amount of knowledge and skill to repair/rebuild a classic to survive in our climate, I suspect many do so in varying degrees by becoming garage queens and rarely if ever taken out if there is any risk of rain.... My C4S and Morgan exist mostly as garage queens or garage art forms, though I have had both out in snow ice and rain at times over the years, and in the case of the old Mog some very heavy rain... Hope clearing the holes helps reduce if not halt the water ingress.

That side screen looks exactly like the trad. Water fills the trough/gully where the plex glass slots in. Without that drain hole the water then fills the trough/gully & runs down the inner side & wets the sills & carpet. Back in 2011 the factory did not bother to drill the drain holes so I drilled mine & have had no water from that area since. The factory did start drilling the holes but not sure when.

My 2014 car has them.
