I wonder how many laid up car registration numbers were lost in I think the late 1970's when the DVLC as was, required that log books buff or green, be exchanged for V5 computerised registration. There must have been quite a few owners who for whatever reason didn't bother and so lost their cars registration.
I recall a car collecting work colleague sending off several logbooks at the time in order to retain their numbers.
