I think I'm older than you Dave so “old school” has a different meaning  This MFU thingy that our Duratecs have appears mostly unnecessary electronic nonsense, to me. Let’s just take one example, the fuel gauge. In the olden days the fuel gauge worked with just a gauge reading the resistance of the sender unit. Well now we have the MFU using the same gauge and the same sender but with the added benefit of a microcontroller in between! The sender reports to the micro and the micro appears to spit out a PWM signal to the gauge. At least that’s my understanding looking at the circuit but please please somebody tell me I’m wrong... How can this be progress? Do fuel gauges work any better these days?

Earlier cars have variants of the awfully fragile and exposed PCB as an early form of BCU. This allows the possibility to replace with basic relay control as Rog has done, although I believe without any timers. I think I'm right in saying the logic required within the PCB to provide the momentary switch latching is lost in such case hence need to replace with simple toggle switches. Perhaps Rog could confirm but if so it appears that Borghi offers similar as his version appears to employ retro toggle switches as well. I will try and answer Richard. Not sure what timers you are referring to but the rear fog light was the only one of the original four vending machine switches that had a momentary action with electrical latching. My new fog toggle switch work similarly. The fog relay is powered by the side light circuit so the fog can only be on when the lights are on. The toggle switch also has a LED warning light to remind you when activated.

Thanks Roger that confirms my thoughts. The timers I mentioned are on later models to limit heated windscreen, courtesy lights etc. One advantage of momentary latching switches is that they unlatch when ignition switch is turned off. Prefer the retro looks of toggles though.

That feature remains with the toggle too. The fog light will not remain on if you leave the car with the side lights on as the fog supply drops out when the ignition is turned off.

I've also just found the following post that seems to point to a common link between the blower motor and these multiple PCB failures https://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/612561/all/pcb-fails-for-the-fourth-timeThis comment has also got me thinking: There are some posts somewhere on here from me on exactly the same issue. In my case it was the fly back diodes being under spec and failing to a short. Which blew that 5a fuse. I have replaced these with standard 4001 diodes and all fine. I popped some pics on here at the time and details of which diodes.
Cheers Nick TBH rather than relying on a repair of the burnt track I really need to understand why it failed in the first place, or it'll likely just fail again  In the above post Gambalunga talks of four PCB failures on his 2012 Plus 4 before he went to an old school relay solution, Monty is a 2012 Plus 4 and my failure also arrived at the same time my blower motor went on strike, the similarities are hard to ignore. At the time of failure I also blew the fuse for my speedo and ignition warning light, however, once the fuse was replaced the speedo and ignition warning light did return. But sadly I was now left with no illumination in the fog light and heated screen switches, although in my case the issue is just switch illumination as both the switched devices themselves remain functional. This is what I was left with: * No illumination of the fog light switch - Rear fog light still works * No illumination of the heated screen switch - Heated screen may not be working? * No indicator tell tales - Indicators still work * No headlight tell tale - Headlights and side lights still work * No high beam tell tale - High beam still works * No seat belt tell tale - This light never worked in my ownership Oddly I still have illumination in my hazard warning switch? Like I say, I’m keen to trace the true source of the fault rather than just have my local electronics engineer repair the burnt track, could there be something in the fan relay flyback diode theory? That diode failing and a decent current through that track could have blown the track. I suggest just checking the resistance across the diode (check with the probes the right way round so that you are not forward biasing the diode) - it is in parallel with the relay coil so you will get quite a low resistance if all is well, or a dead short if it is blown. If it is blown you could try replacing it with a common or garden 1N4001 and fix the track with a bit of wire. I'm not sure if you still have heater fan issues? I would ensure D6 and D7 are also changed at the same time to prevent that issue raising its head. What I don't understand is why this only affects some cars and not others - unless it is to do with the a voltage regulator or somesuch. In any case I imagine that he is still doing these conversions, which can be done without replacing the dash. Part of the problem was that the heater fan is actually wired in reverse to the normal logic. That is to say it is constantly powered and the control is on the earth side, unlike the rest of the system. After several years and many thousands of kilometers I have had no further problems. Unfortunately you would have to take a trip to Milan to get the job done.  When someone else had a dash replaced he did offer a loan car for use while the job was done,  It is a good excuse for a holiday in Northern Italy (read Lake Como, good wine and food etc.) Thanks Gambalunga, That sounds lovely but I was hoping for a more local solution, I will keep Luigi in mind though. I'm currently talking with a few electronics engineers including the people who built my Plug & Play EMU Black ECU which has been absolutely fantastic, they have a team of in-house engineers. This afternoon I discussed this common PCB fault with one of them, he started to explore the possible causes with me over tge phone and was interested to learn more about the external 'off the board' relay solution. So on his request I've sent them some images of my PCB with its burnt track, and a link to Roger's excellent post. TBH getting the burnt track repaired is straightforward enough, I have a local PC engineer who can do that but I fear its not the right approach. We need to fully understand why the track burnt out in the first place and implement a fix so it doesn't happen again. I also need someone who will give the whole board a complete health check and is willing to modify it too, so far my ECU people seem the most willing and motivated to help, I'll keep this post updated with how all this plays out as I'd also like to think a solution can be found that would help others like me, Morgan owners suffering the same issue who are happy to remove their PCB but do not have the skills or knowledge to fix it themselves.

Very useful, thanks for posting Nick Re, why this affects some car and not others. It appears to me that the heater issue seems to be reported more on cars with this later style of dash pcb. I believe the older rectangular pcb’s were functionally very similar but a different manufacturer. Also there is the curious addition of two inserted diodes on the later Dashboard connector’s heater high and low pins, see below. Quite what their purpose is I don’t know but I guess they could potentially be problematic? They appear too far from the source to be viable fly back diodes but again I don’t really know, we need a proper expert to suggest what their purpose might be. ![[Linked Image]](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/4pd2dda4trai618/blower%20diodes.jpg) Dave, dare I suggest a possible test that I might have considered whist the pcb was out of the car, if it were mine? It should be possible to do a heater high/low speed function test along with the heated screen using a link wire on the flying 12 way Dashboard Connector (the one in the pic above). To test the heater hi/low speed, link the fused (+) supply pin.4 to pins 8 and then 12.
