Under the car for rear diff, gearbox and engine oil change. Followed by underseal touch up. Followed by brake clean up. To be followed by inlet manifold off for valve inspection and clean - but not today. Note lock wire on the gearbox drain plug. No other reason than just cos I wanted to... Using up surplus Brownie points. Oops - are we allowed to say that these days ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2023/11/13/IMG_4675.png) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2023/11/13/IMG_4678.png)

Why can’t you say “Brownie points”, you can buy them in cafes/ bakers and supermarkets?

My last MOT came with an advisory on the track rod end boots. Popped a couple of these on this morning. There are dozens and dozens of different sizes to choose from. For the record, these aren’t genuine Morgan boots but went on a treat. ![[Linked Image]](http://tm-img.com/images/2023/11/14/boots.jpeg) Old & the new ![[Linked Image]](http://tm-img.com/images/2023/11/14/t-boots.jpeg)

Thanks for info on sizes Rog. Convinced one of mine was split I bought a pair of what appeared to be the correct size and for Plus 8. Turned out they were too small. Fortuitously the ones I took off were fine and still supple, once I'd removed all the underseal which had given the impression they were split. Got to re-pack with grease though

Why can’t you say “Brownie points”, you can buy them in cafes/ bakers and supermarkets? While a common definition is along the lines of “ an imaginary social currency acquired by doing good deeds or earning favour in the eyes of another, often one’s spouse” it has potential to be misconstrued. Never heard of them as an edible item - other than Chocolate Brownies which are somewhat different. Isn’t our language wonderful. Anyone for a Yorkie Bar?

I started restoring the rear license plate lamp (the marker, I think it's called) I took it all apart and put the pieces in a box for safe keeping. The chrome housing has a crack and the metal I think is too thin to try welding. I thought of silver soldering the crack closed but I doubt if that would stand up to replating or road vibration, so today I ordered a new chrome housing from Morgan Spares. I also put the front axle on jack stands since one of the more imposing items on the repairs list is replacing the front bumper supports and brackets as somewhere back in the swirling mists of History, the old ones had been repaired with mediocre welds and have become broken. When I first started work on this car I covered it with a plastic tarp and put a bug bomb underneath to kill the Black Widow spiders and chase out the mice/rats that took up residence. Then I took out the carpets and upholstery cushions and rear "floor" (if that's what you call it since it's a roadster,) and built new seat risers as the old ones were shot. The carpeting left a mess on this "floor" so I sanded it smooth today as well, ready for a coat of protective paint while it awaits recarpeting along with the rest of the car. on some future day

Takes me back ... remember helping a friend drag an old Karmann-Ghia out of the undergrowth near Santa-Cruz for him to restore .... once back on his drive we spent over an hour spider-chasing before he was happy to roll it into the garage. Felt quite exotic to someone from the UK where we don't have to think about harmful wildlife 🙂
Keep us in touch with the rebuild as it goes.

The previous owner of my Plus 8 had a "Easy up" hood fitted by Allon White Sports Cars and a great hood it is. However the original tonneau cover did not fit the new hood and as I like to have a cover on when blatting on my own or when leaving it parked in town, it has irked me since we purchased the car. Today however a local Auto Trimmer was able to make an addition to the cover to fit over the folded hood using material we supplied from the spare wheel cover which we have never used. This matched the material of the tonneau cover which it seems is not available in New Zealand. She carefully cut the wheel cover to make enough to cut off the existing edges and extend them to fit. She still has to punch out the holes for the fasteners but we will take it back for that when they get the appropriate punch. That should then tighten up the cover and loose the creases. I managed a quick acceleration on the way back to the speeds that plus 8s like and the cover stayed where it should be. Looking forward to using it a lot, (I tried to upload two photos from "imgur" but no success there). Happy Miles. Bryan

I did a valve job on the 4/4 this summer and noticed some cylinder wear. Now the engine is out and at the engine shop. A thorough going over of the whole engine is scheduled, and maybe a little performance boost. Hope to have it back by the middle of January. In the meantime I have a laundry list of other things I want to do to the car this winter.
