I'm new to Morgans (and this forum) so please excuse my question if it is very obvious!
Are the front wings of a Plus 8 the same as the 4/4 and other models? And where is the best place to get one in the UK?

I think your question would get more responses in the Classic section, but the short answer is “no”. As they are hand-built, the wings are often slightly different even between individual cars of the same model.

Even the ones that are outsourced and not hand built, e.g. 'Superformed' vary between cars. It all depends on the year of the cars in question. Newer cars are likely have Superformed wings with the older cars having hand crafted ones.
One major issue is tire size. In my experience the tires of a Plus 8 are wider than those of other Morgan models, even in the same year. So the wings have to be wider to accommodate the increased width of the tires.

Are the front wings of a Plus 8 the same as the 4/4 and other models? And where is the best place to get one in the UK? There really isn't a good place. But here is the situation. https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/wings.html and it has become ...er... less good. Classic Plus 8s used 9 (from memory) types of wings. When Charles Morgan was refused the discount he wanted from Vintage Wings & Radiator, https://www.vintagewingsandrads.co.uk/pages/home.html he drove directly to Superform in Cheltenham and began buying from Superform wings. However, creating Superform molds is very costly as is the process of switching from one to another. So the multiple variants in Morgan front wings ended . I had to pull many strings to get some when I restored my UK Plus 8s wings in 2004. The situation is surely worse now that they have stopped producing trads, Aeros etc altogether. Superforms had a LONG history of problems with the paint bubbling, which is cured but still afflicting the first 10 years of Superform Morgans. It was never made public, but I was told how they cured it. It is harder to repair properly. Alloy wings from VW&R are also a no-no. The way they made/make them guarantees the edges will rot out. They are aware of this, but won't change. VW&R supplied Morgan for many decades. It was taken over by an employee. VW&R That is your first stop. If you are VERY lucky, the wings you may still have and you want to replace are steel. Steel is infinitely repairable and will cost you very little time and much less money. In any event, tell us how it turns out. The lovely (flamboyantly art deco) Morgan wings are a problem for all of us. You could be one of the lucky ones. Do you have your old wings and are they in steel? gmg P.S. I needed new wings for my restoration as my original ones made in alloy by VW&R. Their method rolls the wing edge around a steel cable and the galvanic interaction between the metals creates a sad result.

Most of the usual Morgan parts suppliers should be able to sort you out - Techniques - Wings

A2002 Le Mans replica +8 will have Superform alloy wings , they are as "standard" as it gets with Morgans, so most dealers should be able to source them for you.
A bent wing is a sign to look for damage elsewhere in the suspension and chassis , but I guess you have already tackled this.

The forum section title is slightly confusing here - the Plus 8 referred to is the Aero 8 based Plus 8 - i.e. ally chassis / BMW V8. Steel chassis / Rover V8 cars are classic - pre-CX platform cars. As for your wings, as Andy &c state they are of Superform manufacture.

Hello 2009 jamesb,
I think you`ll have problems to find a correct new wing. When Morgan did start with those superformed wings in 1997 the wings where different as before. Not only the way of producing them. The lamp pods are closer to each other and don`t touch the wheel arches. This has been produced until the last +8 with Rover engine left the factory. With the start of the new Roadster models the lamp pods did move more to the outside again, as they have been placed before 1997. So best would be to bring your bend wing into the correct shape again. Morgan doesn`t produce those correct wings for your model anymore. Regards Frank Morgan Park Hamburg
