Good idea to smear the threads of the plugs with ultra high temp ceramic grease (Copperslip is ok but ceramic is better) and do not over tighten. I always remove the plugs from new cars I acquire and replace them after lubricating the threads. This is especially important in modern engines since the plugs stay in for years before they need changing and one must be so careful with fine threads and alloy heads.

I went to my local motor factors and bought a set of the NGK LTR6DI-8, so I'll see how they go.
Nice info about engine covers - thanks everyone.

I need to replace the spark plugs on my 2020 GDi (the front one is badly corroded around the ceramic). The car is currenly fitted with Ford CYFS12Y1 (original fitment), however they are not that easy to find (no doubt due to the engine being for the US market). I have been offered NGK LTR6DI-8 as an alternative - does anyone know if these will be OK or can recommend anything else? The NGK LTR6DI-8 also known by code 96588 is described as a laser iridium plug suitable for Ford Focus ST250 and Focus RS 2.3. They are pre-gapped at 0.8mm with NGK heat rating of 6. Here is a list of cross references to the Ford CYFS12Y1. As these are the plugs I have just bought, is that gap of 0.8mm correct for our GDi engines?

I believe 0.8mm or 32 thou is near enough. Certainly most fit them as supplied for the simple reason the fine tip can easily be damaged by adjustment. Another reason why the gap is included in plug spec. Les.
