At the very least, the technical requirements for this type of control and monitoring are already in place. A video about the possibilities of insurers and the state...and about the question of what it will be like to drive a classic car.
I don't want to paint the devil on the wall, but it's hard to imagine what will have become the new standard in just 20 years.

Saw a similar rubbish video shared by my brother. I think the greater short term threat is insurance becoming unaffordable for electric car owners especially when they become fully autonomous. Whatever its not going to worry me.

A bloke on the MGOC forum was talking about a neighbour who had a prang in his Hyundai EV. Only panel damage so easily fixed and no Cat markers. Done on a 50/50 with through insurance,

Come renewal, no-one wil touch him. He's had to go through Hyundai themselves for insurance and had a 300% increase in premium. One of the forum works in insurance and thinks it may be that the insurers are wary in case there is some unspotted battery/wiring damage that will cause future problems..

I think there are a few worrying tales of insurance hikes relating to EV`s and even Classics..?

I have heard that EV`s, can be written off by insurance companies in cases where only minor damage has occurred, perhaps the result of the lack of repairers out there prepared to work on EV`s, which if true, seems bound to affect insurance costs. Though circa just over a year ago having been quoted seven weeks before the JLR dealership could even agree to look at my good ladys Evoque wheel rotation sensor issue, it seems to me that there also may be other issues at play in the grand scheme of things..?

As I run a Tesla as basic transport, I am not looking forward to the time when I require to renew my insurance.

On Classic insurance..I have watched numerous of.. Number 27 YT vids over time, and enjoyed his practical though not expert approach to things in general, never more so than when he bought a Ferrari and set about resolving it`s issues. His latest vid on Classic car insurance seems a more akin to click bate, and the content would perhaps more suit those who enjoy a degree of conspiracy theory based upon supposed insider information from the insurance industry.... and from there drifts off to delve into the big brother aspects of Tesla software monitoring...

For sure it is a brave new world, best of luck to those who think they might avoid evolutionary processes..

I removed the link as it has already been posted while I was typing..

In Belgium there was an article in the newspapers about EV's and insurance companies.

It stated that if an EV has had an accident, the chemical composition of the batteries may change and with the cost of replacement batteries about € 5.000 to € 12.000, many EV's will end up a write off. scared

Chatting with someone in the 'trade' the other day, numerous Range Rovers are sat in the yard awaiting a backlog of parts supply, plus more worrying is that some owners in certain cities can't get insurance with some providers at all - due to the very high theft rate, triggered by parts supply shortage as they are often stripped for parts, bit of a vicious circle

He also said JLR don't offer their own insurance anymore as it's become a money pit
