"Morgan Motor Company And OAK Racing Join Forces

For 2012 LMP2 Programme

Well here’s a name we expected to return in 2012 to ACO rules racing, and a new alliance with another name that’s been looking for a while for a route back.

The Morgan Motor Company and OAK Racing today announced a new partnership that will see the new 2012 OAK-Pescarolo LMP2 cars compete as Morgan LMP2s.

The cars will be manufactured by Onroak Automotive, OAK Racing’s constructor department, based at the Technoparc des 24 Heures in Le Mans.

OAK Racing will enter one Morgan LMP2 in this year’s FIA WEC where they will seek to emulate the achievement of the Morgan Super Sport that took class victory at the 1962 Le Mans 24 Hours. 2012 will mark the fiftieth anniversary of their success and the company will seek to celebrate this landmark in style.

“Our partnership presents the opportunity for the next generation of Morgans to embrace new technological advances, particularly with the implementation of materials such as carbon fibre and top level aerodynamics, elements that are key to LMP2 cars. What’s more, we now have the chance to develop efficient, high-end performance machinery.”

The modern era has seen Morgan contest international races in the GT classes with the mid-1990s campaigns utilising first a highly developed Plus 8 followed, in 1997, by a car that was, effectively, part of the development programme for the car that became the roadgoing Aero 8 the infamous ‘Big Blue’.

The Aero 8 itself saw ‘Cup’ and GT3 versions race with some success in British GT and FIA GT3 competition plus GT2 machines that raced at Le Mans in 2002 and 2004 plus Spa and Sebring in 2004."
