The 7 is so brutal in style it turns me right off. Harry review of the 5 was very interesting. All the numbers look pretty on a spec sheet but the assembled pile does not stack up. He also has a good video about a Taycan estate, X5 PHEV and RR(previous gen) PHEV.

The only good thing about the 7 is that it could be a good candidate for my next daily luxury lump to replace the ML63. The driving reports are pretty good. The other candidate is a last gen E63s Estate (4WD 4L V8 model)


Are we designing for a daily traffic jam, or weekend fun, or hard work ?

There was some debate on the radio today over the increasing size of SUV's, I was concentrating on drilling but thought I heard Paris has banned the Audi Q7 ? 8 ?

A bit of a rant...

I do indeed empathise with much that Harry relates to in his BMW vid, though in truth it seems he is way behind me in expressing his frustration with the inclusion of technology just for the sake of displaying the "advances" in in it`s capabilities...?

As one who had to deal with tec "advance" and at times under pressure to resolve issues, the whole idea of KISS seemed to have been lost in a bid from some purveyors of tec kit to show how smart they were, or perhaps boost sales of kit by displaying all sorts of useless functions which might have impressed the company buyers after a few drinks, but added to complexity of trying to keep systems operating reliably..? All of which crossed over into daily life in a very short period of time..?

Daily life, be it cars, cookers, camera`s and so much more, such is the degree of tec that repairs or replacement costs can be considerable. Those of us who own a pre digital Trad and have or had hands-on capability, must read with a high degree of frustration when something as formerly simple as a brake light issue, causes a more modern Morgan to be unusable to the extent it seems Morgan dealerships may struggle to resolve the issue at the first attempt...?

The possibility of MOT failure would seem to have increased exponentially on mundanemobiles given the possible fault indications that might appear on the dash, perhaps reporting of ABS issues and the possible cost of repairs, when during normal driving those of us old enough to have driven in pre-digital times will hopefully understand the importance of adjusting ones driving to suit the conditions. For sure the warning that there is an ABS issue is handy to know in order not to be dependant on it, but as a MOT fail issue that could easilly amount to a costly repair...?

I guess I could rant on and on and on, but on one of my cars, which has rather expensive to replace tyres, If it suffers a puncture, a repair is considered to be out of the question... OK so the thing does have a fw hundred horse power underfoot, however the apparent requirement is to replace both tyres per "axle" as it seems such may be the difference in tread depth, thus rolling radius of a new tyre against a partly worn one, that the ECU may be fooled into making incorrect decisions on traction control etc.etc.etc.

I ran quite a variety of old sports cars of over quite a few decades, and I suspect I may as much money on restoring and repairing a number of them over that time, as I have spent on my current tin top sports car over a period of under three years and circa 5k miles.... OK so being older, and far more limited in my physical and technical abilities was bound to have to be factored in and thus adding to the frustration... BUT..!

OK so I`m just grumbling as one of my age might be expected so to do, and perhaps less so given I was waxing lyrical at the Wonders of Tesla high tec and the level of unimagined convenience it provided during the recent cold snap as well as providing a degree of possible enhancement to the everyday driving abilities for the old man I have become....

Reminds me of my first Volvo about 20 years ago. It was fairly new, I bought it second hand as an ex Volvo 'management' car. It developed an occasional misfire so I took it back to the main dealer. They hand it back at the end of the day saying that they had updated the software and it was OK now. Needless to say it wasn't so I took it back and asked them to change the plugs. That solved the problem. Recently my Mog (1956) failed on me. A brief check showed no spark. Quickly traced to a broken LT wire from the coil to the distributor.
Having said that my Mog with a 2l TR engine developing some 90bhp (maybe) in comparison to my current Volvo 2l T5 engine developing some 250bhp shows how much development has taken place over the past 60+ years.

The new Landy is infested with interfering electronic rubbish, the stupidest of which rams on the brakes if you open the door while reversing, I hadn’t realised how often I do that ‘till I bought this thing😂

I quite like the edgy look of the new 7 series but that 5 of Harry’s looks boring at even half the asking price.

Wow, surely I'm not the only person who opens the door when reverse-parallel-parking to enable me to judge a 1" distance from the kerb and not wreck the wheel rims ?

The plus six cuts the drive if you open door when leaning out of the car to see if you’re all misted up. Can’t drive it with door open at tall.

It’s quite possibly a legislative feature of all new cars then, I guess that’ll put a stop to YouTube clips of morons getting out while the car is still engaged in reverse.

In the future, stupid people will live forever and without a care in world.

My golf gti does the same, I just assumed it was because of the electric handbrake.
