Collected my Mog from Tim at New Elms. He had it there for a while considerably improving the steering, suspension and a few other jobs. There was some previous restoration work that needed correction! He has left me some jobs to do, and I am looking forward to getting out and about in it once the weather improves.

At long last, the bumper tube assemblies are off the 4/4. It took two Whitworth sockets (shallow and deep) with assorted extensions, a small crescent, a Whitworth open end, a hacksaw and five blades, two Vise Grips, a Farrier's 2.5# rounding hammer and fuller punch, a whole bunch of spare time and some bloody knuckles to remove those unsavory scallions, but it's done!

Did a bit of lathework tonight rebushing the rear forks on my 1933 Super Sports.
Couldn't find an offcut of phosphor bronze large enough/cheap enough to rebush the trunnion plates so got some repair sections investment cast.

Picked up the header from the coating company. Aluminum-Ceramic high temperature... ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2024/01/05/IMG_6328.md.jpeg) That looks brilliant for ceramic coating, almost like a fully polished system! Can I ask does it stay looking like that? Or does it dull/tarnish.

[quote=1854sailor]Picked up the header from the coating company. Aluminum-Ceramic high temperature... Can I ask does it stay looking like that? Or does it dull/tarnish. As mentioned before, I have been ceramic coating exhaust pipes for 25 years. At the start, I too used to choose a chrome look like these. Sadly, most ceramic chrome-looking pipes will become an opaque grey in a year or so...losing their gorgeous sheen. And this shiny time is a function of coating the pipes inside and out (which is equally important). Many of these companies only coat the outside, saving more than half the cost of the process..producing less than one half of the undeniable benefits. This blue-grey opaque color is not as bad as the quick discoloration of stainless steel, but nothing like it is on the day of arrival. I find in not unattractive but it is NOTHING like chrome. The discoloration cannot be addressed and it is unwise to try the process again, assuming you find a company who will attempt it. Nonetheless the ceramic coating advantages continue whether shiny chrome or not. It is also done by those with cast manifolds. Same benefits. I once tried chrome on my wife's etype. Real chrome pipes discolor if you stare at them too hard. The chrome/aluminum ceramic coating is the most popular. I used it myself, only learning of the color fading after. The reason is the maximum heat these coatings can withstand. Cerama-Chrome is the most delicate and lowest maximum. The darker colors have the highest temperature maximum without discoloration. The chrome look is good to about 1250F (I am looking at American coater data). Colored ceramic can easily go to double that temperature which means it never discolors. What you get the first day, is what you get forever. In the UK, if only the aesthetic effect is wanted..I can recommend metalizing. When I bought my UK Morgan(2005) and restored it, ceramic coating was unheard of. For the start of my tenure with that car, I tried metalizing, cheap and aesthetically effective without the deep advantages of ceramic coating. Image below. IIRC correctly, I paid 75 quid for the set back when. I chose silver. gmg ![[Linked Image]](http://www.gomog.com/TEMP/metalizingbefore&after.jpg)

I have been busy in the garage with my beloved toy. The garage was the only dry place to have some fun with the Morgan. Inspired by Roger ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/02/07/1.jpeg) I saw that strip at a classic car fair and didn't hesitate. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/02/07/2.jpeg) But I think there is still too much gap (insight) between the column and the shroud. I thought to finish that off with the alloy diamond plate leftover of the footrest. But it's thick and not easy to work with because the contours are not evenly. And of what remains after drilling out the column, you can hardly see anything of the structure. The rice grain plate, is thinner and therefore easier to work with and the profile will be more visible. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/02/07/3.jpeg) But I don't have the right size drill at home. That's why everything was put back so that I can drive if the weather permits. But not before cleaning everything inside. I wonder if after installing the alloy plate the stalk mechanism will be better protected. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/02/07/4.jpeg)
