OK guys. The car was running at highway speeds in the hot desert when it died. And was towed home. The fuel pump and filter were replaced- given the car had over 20K miles and was still running the original fuel pump and filter. Still no go, the fuel pressure was suspected. Injectors were inspected and sent out, given a clean bill of health, and then reinstalled. Now the car makes the gurgling noise but does not fire. My friend has now reached out to a former S&S factory-sponsored racer some of us are privileged enough to know in the greater Seattle area who has worked on a few of our M3Ws. His over-the-phone diagnosis is the crank position sensor has crapped out.

With regards to fuel pressure dropping off - I had a Morgan Customs system on my M3W with a built-in fuel pressure gauge and it held pressure for a good long while. A few minutes at least. I suppose the new pump could be bad - but I ran an eBay knockoff pump for several thousand miles and it was fine. I also ran a Walbro pump. I just do not think it is the brand-new pump causing the issue.

I will give another update when I know more from my friend. Appreciate all the input so far on this one. TM helped me through so many issues on my M3W and this community is the best. Also, the nearest MOG dealer for all of us in Washington is in California!

I think there is a possibility that your original breakdown was caused by the fuel pump but you now have a problem that is more likely related to it not being piped in correctly, it is very easy to get the hoses crossed and this gives your "gurgling" noise, don't ask me how I know that. If you have a steady 58psi at the injector test point when the pump is running the fuel system is fine......it could be the crank position sensor??? Bunny does a replacement CPS kit by the way.

Gomog, please don't bother researching the Discovery V8 EFi pump failures, that is what I did several years ago and found out there was a problem with the Discos as well as our M3W's. That is why we developed the Walbo kit and produced all the detailed replacement instructions. The Walbro was a popular replacement for the Disco owners and it isn't a massive difference in performance to the standard pump but is more reliable with the same power consumption and is readily available. It has been proven by many M3W owners to work.
