I couldn't find reliable information about the Duratec 2L charging system. So asked MMC, who finally, after several months, answered...
Maybe this info can be useful.
Question: Does the +4 Duratec 2L MY 2009 adopted the "Ford Smart Charging System" (smart alternator, where the charging voltage is regulated by the engine ECU)? This system was common in Ford cars (also Mondeo) since the 2000's till present times. Or does it have ordinary charging system with the voltage regulator embedded in the alternator?
Answer by MMC: After speaking with our technical department I can confirm that the alternator on your Morgan is indeed a smart alternator.

Remote (ECU) rather than machine regulated alternators have been the norm in new cars for some time. They provide multi-stage charging, allowance for varying loads and adaptive mapping to battery characteristics as it ages. Often a charge profile reset is needed therefore after fitting a new battery.

Car will likely tell you at least once on screen display if needed. Reset performed via OBD2 hook up. That's how it worked on our F54 Mini anyway.

Just wanted to fully clarify this theme, so asked MMC further...
question: Does the Morgan +4 2.0L Duratec MY 2009 have the BMS (Battery Management System)? If there is a "smart alternator", then subsequently there must be a BMS. Unless MMC did some alternation of the system. If there is a BMS, how to reset the system in the case of battery replacement?
Answer by MMC: The Morgan does not have the BMS as we do not have Body Control ECU fitted to this vehicle.
So, obviously there is no need and possibility to reset the BMS (as it does not exist in classic Morgans with Duratec engines). Though there is a smart alternator, but without BMS.

That's an odd answer from MMC since a smart alternator would be regulated by the ECU not BCU. If it doesn't have Ford's BMS it will have something similar to regulate.
My Roadster has a smart or at least remotely regulated alternator but that comes from the powertrain control module (PCM) a fancy ECU that hooks up to transmission as well. FWIW it doesn't appear to need a reset on fitting a new battery.

Richard, I put a new battery in a pals 3.7 for him in July 22 and I have to admit never thought to check if was a smart alternator, but all works as it should and holds charge

Peter I have a 2012 Duratec Plus 4 (built 2011), I changed the ECU from the Ford Visteon to an EMU Black ECU from ECU Master, this stand alone ECU has no smart charging function. As we can see from the following log taken from my EMU Black, the alternator regulates perfectly around 13.6v ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/FqrvMZr/Alternator-Regulation-13-6v.png) To me this proves the Ford Visteon ECU used by Morgan had no smart charging function either.
