After a glorious 260 mile tour of my favourite Mid Wales roads yesterday, my beautifully polished Roadster is now splattered with the widest range of bugs I have ever seen. Some of them must have been very juicy indeed.

My question is, what is the best bug cleaner?

Every "Best Product" search seems to recommend something different so no definitive answer there and I've tried several in the past but all seem to leave some bug residue if not used same day.

So I thought I'd ask all you super cleaners out there for your recommendations.

What do you use?

A good soaking first allows them to be wiped off later Bob although you may need to repeat. Either that or leave car in rain for an hour or so. Better than possible paint damage trying to remove whilst dry.

Same thing with bird “bombs”.
A good soaking is a must to soften it. Usea hose to try to shift it when soft. Be careful...there can be grit in the poo. If you try wiping it off you can get scratches. I keep a spray bottle with a mild soap solution to wet bugs/poo. Plenty of water to flush it with minimal wiping until all gone. Waxed surfaces are easier too.

Not sure what the Seagulls ear in North Wales but if not removed asap it sets like concrete! Full of grit !
There seems to be a lot more bugs around this year, wonder if the leaving the verges uncut is helping?

Bird poo etches into my red Golf within minutes, so has to be removed asap. It's not as etchy on the Morgans and our white Polo, but I always get it off before it sets hard.

The bugs were out in force in Scotland this year. Not been that bad for ten years. Removing any of this stuff needs hot soapy water in a spray and patience. A throwaway microfibre helps.
As a last resort you could clay bar the residue at the end.

I've tried fancy bug shifter and it's OK, but nothing special.

These work pretty well & are handy. They work reasonably well on bug splats, as well. Not sure if Halfords are the cheapest.

A wild guess but maybe the insect population has increased because we have just had one of the dampest winter/spring on record - just saying hide

I find the secret if you don't have the facility to wash the Mog on holiday is hose over to get the abrasive dust off and then soak old worn microfibre cloths and leave these on the worst effected areas and be patient whilst things soften

After you think it's clean, wrap some cling film around your finger and test the surface, if you still feel 'bits' then clay bar will sort it, followed by a quick re-wax of that area

I simply use newspaper over the affected area soak it and leave for a while. Works on bugs and Seagull sh1t.

I find spraying the front with a citrus cleaner, followed with some snow foam on top and letting it soak for a few mins makes quick work of road splatter. Happy to send you links with the specific products I've been using.
