Drove up to Cambridge to Cain at Wolf Performance for a service and suspension upgrade, my AVO's were shot. Service went well all the brake pads were removed to de-glaze, rear drums removed and cylinders checked. I had bought online a coil cover which was supposed to fit but didn't, needed some work to make it fit, now fitted. The shot AVO's were replaced with new Wolf shockers, these are about half the weight Aluminium cases. Transformed the ride, no bottoming out any more, smoothed the road out. Ride home was nightmare on the M11 static and very slow from J9 right through to J8 1 1/2 hours HGV with split tank lane 1 covered in diesel and only HATO's on scene with not a clue how to deal.

Fitted the rubbing strips from woolies cost £4. thanks for all the replies.

The originals had been in place for 40years I think they deteriorated because I started to oil them, ( rubber does not like oil) lesson learned.

It depends on the rubber. Synthetic rubbers can be oil resistant. They all though don't like UV & ozone. 40 years is a pretty good shelf life.

What is a coil cover?
Surprised how your 2013 car seems to eat shockers. Don’t think AVOs were OEM, so it must now be on its third set… High mileage, live up a farm track, or maybe the wrong spec. AVOs were fitted last time?

Doug a coil cover goes on top of the engine and covers the spark plugs perhaps better described as engine cover originally designed for Caterhams with Duratec engines. You are correct AVO'S are not OEM, fitted about 20k ago yes it's now on its third set at 47k.I live in Essex so roads not good and it does get driven. King pins only lasted 5 years, hard chrome now fitted.

Thanks. All understood now.
I’m still running OEM at 51k miles.
