Hi Everyone!

Finally took delivery of my 2002 Morgan Aero 8 S1 - already done 700 miles in 3 days 😆 not without issue though 😆

Firstly the garage claims the battery is new, it certainly looks new however let it stand over night with no trickle charger and the dredged clicking sound in the morning, bought a jumper pack and that does the job but a new battery certainly shouldn’t go flat after just one night. So either the battery is not new or there is a voltage leakage somewhere, maybe any members here have some feedback on what it could be. Driving in the day is no issues with a break of a few hours in between the car starts fine, it’s only when it stands for 12 hours.

Second issue started this morning, the passenger window does not want to go up or down, it worked for a few seconds and then didn’t work again, tried multiple times during the day and it didn’t work and then last try it worked again for a few seconds and then gone. One thing I think it could be is I was caught in some rain yesterday and some water got into the cabin and down the windows, possible that the connection is damp? Or is it the switch that is faulty now? Feedback greatly appreciated.

Hi Kyle, First you could investigate the presence of a battery cut-out breaker usually located on the outside of fuse box with small red button. Opening this breaker should prevent any excess current drain overnight depleting battery although it doesn't isolate completely. Not sure if they were fitted to early Aero's though. You will loose clock time and radio memory each time it's operated so should be regarded as a temporary measure. It's clearly shown in pic below at front of box.



It could be that a new battery was fitted recently but due to the cars lack of use by the previous owner has quickly deteriorated, as any battery will if left flat for any length of time, due to sulphation.

Second suggest you get youself a smart battery charger such as this inexpensive one (an essential device for any Morgan owner) and leave it connected continuously directly to battery when not in use - it will do no harm since it has a float mode.

Third investigate any current leakage from battery to car electrics/electronics whilst car not in use. A multimeter with a 10 amp range should suffice with probes inserted between battery negative post and battery negative lead. There will always be some (a few milliamps) to cover such items as clock, radio memory, keep alive parts of ECU and BCU etc. but not enough to deplete a fully charged battery such that it won't start car, over say a two week period without use.
