Stage one is a freer flowing exhaust and air filter, supplied by Morgan (Aero Racing) or G56, both available circa 2015

And well worth the investment as my 2016 M3W had exactIy that albeit the AR kit ex factory which may no longer be available. Car pulls far smoother from lower revs.

There's no official definition of the stages but the general consensus is:

Stage 1 - Air filter and freer flowing exhaust. Originally launched by Morgan's Aero Racing and subsequently systems offered by Krazy Horse, Garage 56 and some others. This transforms the drivability of the car and does not require any modification to the ECU. A budget option is the so called "Bafflectomy" where you drill out one (or more) of the stock exhaust baffles. Cheap but can give a loud, harsh exhaust note.

Stage 2 - 569 cams which require a remapped ECU. Originally MMC were able to provide unlock codes for the stock ECU so the map could be changed but this is no longer available. So nowadays you require a replacement unlocked ECU and suitable map. S&S unlocked ecu's are like hens teeth but the Emerald ECU is becoming a viable alternative.

Stage 3 - Anything else, predominantly a big bore kit, higher lift cams and larger throttle bodies.

Personally I see Stage 1 as essential and having had both the Aero Racing and Krazy Horse versions I feel the Krazy Horse is better. Garage 56 are still available and quite popular with a more mellow exhaust note but are somewhat larger diameter silencers. For info the main benefit of Stage 1 comes from the freer flowing exhaust, the air filter doesn't make much difference.

Love my Garage 56 exhausts - the exhaust note always makes me smile.
Biggest gain I saw was how much more power the engine develops at higher revs. First time out with them I discovered the rev limiter for the first time! With the factory exhaust the engine ran out of power and required an up-shift long before hitting it.

Does the K&N E-3226 filter fit the G56 stage one intake. Nobody currently seems to stock the S&S 106-4722 standard filter in France but I can get the E-3226. I don’t want to buy from the UK, as packages stick for weeks at customs at Paris CdeG airport and that is if they don’t get stolen, then you have to pay import duty, processing fee, collection fee and then VAT on the whole lot including the postage. Last year I paid all that on another Morgan part but the package was never delivered, presumably stolen – double pain and I am still asking for the duties and fees paid to be returned, 12 months later.

Wilson, The S&S original one is in stock at M3W Services (France) so you can just buy it locally and get it in 2 days 😉

I had sent them an email but have not yet had a reply. I wondered if they are on holiday. Oddly just after posting the first two sentences, I had an email come in from The Biker Store in Yzeure near Allier in the Auvergne, asking if I was sure I wanted the K&N as they did have stock of the original S&S filter at just €40.61, half the price of the K&N.
