I find with my lack of flexibility increasing difficulty judging distances to obstacles when reversing oldgit not helped by the sloping rear. Have been considering for some time therefore parking sensors, particularly having been spoilt with the ones on our modern Mini.

Looking around CISBO offer a range of retro-fit kits but all using four sensors. I chose these inexpensive ones using the smaller 18.3mm sensor hole fitting, for which a hole saw is supplied. The kit can be purchased with sensor plastic moulding in 32 different colours. I chose bright red which is a fair match to my cars Sport Red.

After a fair bit of head scratching I decided to fit them on custom brackets fabricated from 2mm aluminium. A test, before painting to match car, revealed the outer ones with 45° angled bend placed the outer sensors far enough from overriders to not cause an issue. Bends in brackets a little less than 90° to offset the low mounting.

Each attached via existing fixings screws of the plastic rear undertray. Only a couple of hidden holes were needed in plastic tray for inner sensors cables.

All sensors with coded cables fit into this control unit which also accepts power and supplies bleeper, with a sound and LED visual display as an option. It was secured to inside of o/s wooden inner wing, well out of the way of muck and moisture.

Power was taken from the reversing light feed distribution bombtail centre rear. The beeper I placed under carpet behind drivers seat alongside my supplementary indicator warning device. This subdued sound too much so have located adjacent outside carpet.

They provide two bleep rates as obstacles are approached, across full width of car turning to continuous tone at approx a foot away. You also get an "activated" single bleep when reverse gear selected. Sensitivity can be adjusted if needed.

A worthwhile addition. Especially if they prevent an expensive nudge at the rear!

And they look the part 👍

But it won't prevent loonies at the pub/restaurant/supermarket from backing into you / "bump-parking". I'm guessing that none of the commonly-seen alternatives of over-riders / bumpers / or just naked, would withstand even a gentle "nudge".

Yes I guess I'm a technophobe too but a selective one when this cheap simple to install kit can help solve a problem for me.

I tend from motor cycling days to have an internal voice. One of my favorites is
I've been drivin' all night, my hands wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's my baby callin', says, "I need you here"
And it's a-half-past four and I'm shifting gear

Not too good for speed awareness though.
