Greetings from bitingly cold but beautifully sunny Ceredigion..the insurance on my Plus Four is up for renewal ...I am currently with Morgan Insurance Services and have got a much more competitive quotation from Gott and Wynne. I would be very interested to hear of others experiences of these firms and their relative merits and whether any other companies are worth contacting. Regards Gerry

I've been with Footman James since I bought my 4/4 in 2007. I have tried all the MSCC recommended insurers at various times but Footman James have always been the cheapest.

I've been with G&W for several (5+) years. Always good service. At one stage 2 Morgans on the same policy.
Not tried FJ for the Mog, because I've not found the right person to talk to when I've been looking for insurance on other cars (other car clubs allegedly with discounts if using FJ). But then I've also found that with many other companies/brokers. Can't remember who the preferred MX5OC supplier was but I got a much better deal by just phoning Priviledge... The subsequent Z3, Boxster S and now the MINI have all been with Priviledge...
Cheers,
Graham (G4FUJ)

My +4 has been with Peter Best, and my +8 with Gott & Wynne (because I needed class 1 business use which Peter Best couldn't arrange).
At renewal this year I intend to put the +4 with Gott & Wynne as well, if only because I can ring up and speak to one of the same two people each time and they know the cars. I also get European breakdown cover for £21 pa,(which I haven't had to test yet).
Haven't tried anyone else and apart from a windscreen chip, haven't needed to find out how good they really are!

Likewise with Gott&Wynne.I was limited to 5000 miles a year.I was going to run over this it is only another £20 per year for unlimited. How can somebody only cover just 1500 mile per annum?

Boncaster charge £270 to insure a P4 SS limited to 3k miles, compared to £180 for a 4/4. They wanted to charge a lot more, but I managed to negotiate them down on the basis that I had insured with them for 15 years! I think part of the problem was that at the time the car did not appear in any of the rating guides. I intend to shop around when renewal comes up. The hike in insurance was compensated by the reduction in road fund licence, but that's another story.

I'm with G and W mainly for the same reasons that other TMers have stated but an additional factor is that they never quibble about the exact nature of the repairs and, as we know, because of the way trads are constructed, what might be a simple job on a modern unitary construction car can be quite tricky on Mog. I've talked to a number of dealers about this ( eg have a chat to Kevin at Tudor Motors) and they all say the same thing regards, G
