I understand from one of the threads here the ECUs on the later cars are locked to stop changes to the maps to prevent tuning. Does anyone now if its possible to use an ODB tool like Autel to do normal engine diagnostics to find something that might cause a CEL for example. Modern cars are very hard to diagnose without such tools and access to the data.

I have an Autel Maxiscan. It saved me ££££ when I had the Plus8 with Gems management.
I haven't tried it on the Plus Four (MY23). No need ....yet!🤫
Now reminded I'll give it a go soon.
It's a few years old and no longer supported for software updates but I'll try the BMW selection. It should work as the engine has been around for a while. Any MMC specific mods that might have been on the Plus8 didn't affect it so hoping the same for the BMW engined car.

Be interesting to see if it works on the plus four. BMW techs use ISTA which includes info on how to perform task, torque settings etc. I just wanted something for basic diagnostics as the cars today are hard to fix without tools such as these.
