We all have forum names, or login names that we use in forums. My name that I use on several forums is "Gambalunga", literally it would be translated from Italian as "Long leg", and some have wondered why I chose this name.

My choice is a bit tongue in cheek as I really am long in the leg. Other than that it is the name that was affectionately given to a Moto Guzzi race bike that was fitted with a long stroke engine. This modification was useful on some circuits where high torque was required for acceleration out of curves. Other than having owned quite a few Guzzis over the years I also live in the town where this bike was built and it would have been one of the bikes that my father in law, Duilio Agostini, rode when he was a factory rider.

It made its first appearance in 1946, coincidentally the year I was born.

As pointed out elswhere Gambalunga is also the name of the Moto Guzzi Club GB magazine but that is completely unrelated to my choice of pseudonym.

Who else can tell an interesting reason for their choice of forum name?

Mine comes from my Friday evenings at the pub. I was a Railway Signalling Engineering Instructor and some wit decided that Bob the Train was an apt description as there was a Big Bob and a Beardy Bob in the company. I liked the moniker, and its connection with training and railways, so I kept it and used it for my email and several other things, such as my name at the Men's Shed and the u3a.

Mine is a rough combination of the Maori / Pacific names for water and rat. Though recently I have found a stream up north with this name. It is appropriate as I am often to be found mucking round on boats (of all sizes) and have named a couple of my maritime more whimsical creations this also.

Not so much fun as the long legged bike mine is simple. My first name plus the car. It has changed over time and I suppose really should go back to John+4 having moved to a cx from the Roadster.

My display name is simple - name and amateur radio callsign.

Even though I’m a grown man, I went with the name my mum gave me😃
Oddly enough, when out in my car I’m often mistaken for other folks with pseudonyms, I’ve been called clown, bozo, dipsick and even a few other words”I ain’t never heard in the bible.”

Interesting that the name "Gambalunga" was used by the incipient Moto Guzzi Club of Great Britain (MGCGB) for its newsletter when it came into being in 1977 starting in West London. As you note Peter its still used to this day.

Unlike Peter, I am quite short in the leg (29" for trousers) and according to Google Translate, that makes me Gambacorta. I can't find a motorcycle equivalent although it does appear to be an Italian family name and, bizarrely, a mountain peak in Antarctica.

I wouldn't exactly call it interesting now. It's just my first two letters of my first name and my Morgan model
