Yep sounds about right! The racks are never greased up enough. I use a slumping grease designed for axle boxes and steering boxes. I remove the end rubber covers from the rack and with the rack on opposite lock I syringe in 100ml into the rack body then I fill the dust cover and re fix it in place. I then slowly turn the steering onto opposite lock and repeat on the other side. After filling I slowly turn the steering from lock to lock about a dozen times to evenly distribute the grease throughout the rack body. Once this is done you will have a good distribution of the grease within the rack and it will also get redistributed to all parts as you use the steering. It also makes sure that the spacer/followers are adequately lubricated as they move from side to side in the rack outer tube body.
These racks are meant to be lubricated this way and when delivered to the factory are just greased to aid protection and basic function. I'm sure Morgan just fit them without further service and that is why we see so many early issues with wear. Incidentally, if you have to change a steering gaiter/s the grease is enough of a non-fluid to not make life miserable!
