Got to love the Media ... from the above article
"The world's warming is due to emissions of planet-heating gases from human activities - mainly the burning of fossil fuels - but scientists say they cannot fully explain why last month was....."
Errmmm nope lads! ... I know you like to keep things simple and 'on message' for us dullards but, although it's a contributory factor, my lawnmower isn't the sole cause of world temperature rise.... bit more complicated than that.

Yes nobody in the media ever stands back and views the far longer historic data and reality of the cycle that we are currently experiencing as it is not a saleable product is it Banging on about ICE pollutions wins votes and sells articles to naive masses but it's the minutiae of the present situation tbh, so get driving now as my TIC post says as a lot is based on theory and we have seen them turned around just as readily as an Orange Buffons import levies during our lifetime. Just like the CXV why speculate as both events will be upon us soon enough.

Make the most of it ,the Atlantic current that bathes the UK with warm seas during winter apparently is close to collapse. Should that happen our winters will be very cold and harsh almost Siberian. The UK housing stock just wont cope with this type of winter as all our water pipes and drainage are too close to the surface and will freeze.
Not to mention how thermally inefficient much of the older houses are. That was the opening article that I posted John If we didn't inject a little humour this would not be a Brit site would it ?

I still like the irrefutable elliptical rotation of the earth leads to warming and cooling periods in earth's history. in a predetermined/ predictable series of distinct cycles. Which was only proven when we started to take ice core samples from the Artic/Antarctic, which identified time bands of different coloured plankton (at different times) associated with warm/cold seas tied in with the earth rotation of warming and cooling cycles.
I think you don't need to worry too much about mowing the grass impact on climate change.

Anybody remember the HOLE in the ozone layer that we were creating .....................until it closed up on it's own The hole was caused by our use of CFCs, especially in refrigerants. We banned the use of CFCs globally, allowing the hole to close up. A perfect example of man-made damage to the climate being recovered by coordinated international action. There's a good BBC article about it: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20220321-what-happened-to-the-worlds-ozone-hole

When I was in primary school years ago we were taught that10,000 years ago we were in an Ice Age with a sheet of ice covering the land north of the Thames. So for 10k years we were warming up. A natural cycle over ling periods. I get the impression that the current thinking is to reduce ( even reverse?) this. Interesting! Climate control a reality! Maybe within the Eden Project domes but world wide? Also be wary about some of the stats being used that are often cherry picked to suit an agenda. There will be variation about a trend. That trend is a long term calculated one that takes into account variations. I use a spreadsheet to monitor utilities, electric, gas, water. As you would expect there are patterns basically influenced by the time of year as days get shorter/longer, temps drop/rise by season. I use a calculated trend line to see the long term movement that smooths these out. Gas central heating has BIG changes but the long term usage trend is steady. Classic bathtub shaped graph of units used. Cost is, as you would expect, creeping up due to price rises. I did see a drop in gas usage when I adjusted the heating thermostat down by 1 degree without any noticable difference in temperature. Some compensation for price increases. Beware of the agenda obsessed stats abusers!

Beware of the agenda obsessed stats abusers! I did smile when reading your post. Being an accountant I thought I was over monitoring with a ten financial projections by month. One thing to bear in mind when looking at consumption of gas or electricity, KWH, is that both electrical and gas appliances have become very efficient compared with the past so all things being equal you should see a drop in the KWH consumed over time. Of course retirement throws a big spanner in consumption. Mind you I read recently the Artic is about 20c warmer this winter than before......looks like I may need to get my waders as the tide comes lapping at my door.

Hamwich ... the action on the Ozone Layer was indeed a rare example of the world acting in consort (ok there's been significant breaches from China and other Asian countries to feed their construction industries with cheap insulation) ... it's not exactly gone away ... but has been held back from its rapid enlargement ... hopefully it will really shrink when 'legacy CFCs' degrade out of the atmosphere ... a great achievement, but orders of magnitude less complex than anything related to Climate change/crisis/catastrophy*

Here's the extent of the 'ozone hole' by year. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/02/06/Screenshot_20250206_130030_Chrome.jpg) Just for fun I'm going to put my tinfoil hat on 😁 Notice how 2019 is an outlier in terms of size ... now there was a little hiccup going on around that time that still has echoes. What if!! .... 1 ... Although China didn't officially declare full lockdown until Jan 2020 maybe they really did know they had a virus problem well before they let on to the rest of us and had local restrictions going on under the table that effected the plants that were illegally still producing their banned insulation.? 2 .... That would indicate that we in fact have an enforcement issue and we could have 2019 sized ozone hole every year if we could stop China spewing CFCs out in secret? Tinfoil hat off! 😆 K
