I always thought that the cobra looked like the clumsy afterthought that it is....... They're ugly....imho...... although.... I do see the purpose of them, but it's a shame something a bit more elegant and in keeping with the style of the car couldn't be designed. It's always the first thing I take off when I buy a car with one on. It's easy to do, 4 screws hold it on and there's a plastic fitting to unplug. I always wrap it up well in insulation tape and tuck it out of the way.
Perhaps racks have been standardised now but depending on the age of car it was always hit and miss if they fitted or not. Even if you got the correct one for your car's age and bumper configuration it would still probably require a degree of adjustment/modification/fettling.........

Seems to me it fitted the design brief rather well, American brutish muscle, all be it loosely based on a less curvaceous AC... I do like Anglo American co-operation, perhaps more so when I contemplate the origins of my old +8... (-:

Ahhhh.....wellllllll...... 'That' Cobra is a whole different story.....!!!😆
There isn't a clumsy line on it, it is a thing of total beauty..... I went to a car gathering near Wantage last year at a dealer called Maundrells. A 'mature' lady turned up in an original rhd one that her husband bought new....... she still pottered around in it🤯😁 At the other end of the scale......seeing, hearing and feeling them thundering past the paddock at Goodwood is incredible....!

I've got a Librands rack with sidescreen storage on the Plus Four. The centre screw rod is VERY slightly out of line with the theaded mount . I have run a tap to clean up the thread and I push the rack centre mount up with enough pressure ( not a lot) to get good alignment. Luckily it's a rare event so no big deal. A better fix would raise the rack into alignment so that's a job to do. It's only a VERY small change so not a big deal. The fiddliest bit is the spare wheel sliding down under gravity when fitting the centre bolt and spacer. I'll look at a way to prevent this. Something like an insert to hold the spare in place during rack fitting. I just stuff a rolled up towel over the lower lip of the opening when refitting the spare and lining up the rack, added bonus is it protects the paintwork Something along this method would work. On the PlusFour the " hole" that the spare sits in has a tight fitting plastic dished panel that bolts in place and is a flush fitting to the threaded screw in in the centre that the winged bolt goes into. Thete's nothing visible to adjust. A padded item to prevent the wheel sliding would be the easiet option.
