I suspected it would be something like that but the pronunciation is a little softer than I thought it would be. Italian has a trap like that for the english speakers too. "ch" when followed by an "i" or an "e" becomes the "k" sound in english. The same applies to "gh" which makes the "g" hard, as in "get" in english. Conversely "c" or "g" followed by an "i" or an "e" softens the consonant so "ci" becomes like "ch" in english, as in "chance", and "gi" becomes like "j" in english. Good examples would be "ciao" (pronouned a bit like "chow" and "Giovanni" which is pronounced like "Joevanni", "Joe" for short (not "Gee-o-vanni").
It seems the world can not decide on a spelling system that is universal
