A question of scale perhaps. Anyhow a different stance is taken by our neighbours to the West, in Dorset, https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/n...ws-extent-of-damage-to-burned-heathland/ I worked for a decade in that geographical area, and the impact on reptiles and invertebrates was immense and tragic. I'm not an eco-warrior mind you, just trying to take a balanced view.

Again, my thanks for bringing more information to the fore. The literature contains this qualified comment in a side-box:
"Potential tensions
Burning can produce tensions
between those that carry
out the burning and some
conservationists. This is largely
to do with the time of year that
the burning is carried out. With
global warming the seasons
have started to shift and spring
is commencing sooner than
ever. This means that the end
of the burning season coincides
with the start of the bird
nesting season and can also
have an impact on reptiles such
as the smooth snake which is
a protected species".

It is my prerogative to remain in the Unconvinced camp.

You should come and live near Grouse moors if you want to see disturbing amounts of deliberate burning - it breaks my heart.

I like to vary our daily dog walk as much as possible so today with wall to wall sunshine and likely the highest temperature so far this year it was a no brainer to wheel out Morton and install a slightly less enthusiastic Leo in the passenger seat. We chose a ten mile ride to Hockham Heath south of the small town of Watton, which allowed a nice warming blast along the A11 shades

Love exploring so we ventured a little further into the woods on this occasion stumbling (literally) across this lovely bridge hidden deep within, over what must have been a long defunct railway.

Checking later the line ran north though Norfolk servicing many villages and small towns including Watton.

Glad you got out it was great wasn't it. The CX will be out Friday.
We did our normal Thursday walk along the beach to Languard Fort to see how our imports from China are doing.

A fully loaded shuttle I guess from Rotterdam

Not disdain John. Leo is considering on my behalf the logistics of getting my Land Rover down into the cut to nick all that firewood innocent

Completed the last of the winter maintenance tasks (replaced engine breather pipe which had just started showing signs of being perished) and took the car for the obligatory test drive.

A gentle pootle across to the Vale of Belvoir and back via our nearest Shell station. Feeling much better after a ride out.
