That looks like the original fabric tube has been swapped end to end and twisted as it usually burns off the manifold on the T16, bit alarming that, often not noticed unless you feel the inside of the tube.
The washer bottle often melts too, mostly when the original cast manifold is in place.
I have also replaced the tube but with a solid aluminium one. regards John k

They all do that Sir. It looks like you have a Librands manifold fitted. When mine was done a heat shield was fitted. I also fiited insulation to the wash bottle.

For the 4th or 5th time I replaced another pedal spring. (clutch) Lost count.

The 1st time was 25+ years ago.
Last time was June 23. Second time on MattMog.
The advantage is that I can now do it in 15 to 20 minutes.
Simply slide the axle aside, change the spring and slide everything back into place.

The biggest problem with this is; My back. oldgit

My supplier (BelMog) doesn't understand why so many springs break on me?
Maybe my left foot is a bit out of the jaw 😉

But those springs break in a different place each time.

Do you need it? On the 3.7l Roadster there is also a spring on the clutch cylinder . Removing the pedal one turns it into a nice clutch vs one needing thighs like tugboats.

A pedal mounted clutch spring was never fitted to my August 2018 Roadster and certainly not needed. Having said that the +4 does have a different (Duratec) master cylinder.

This takes me back to a discussion I had some time back with Spanner Juggler, on the system used by Ford at the time which seemed to have a spring mechanism in the pedal assembly to maintain pressure on the clutch release bearing...? Such a set up for those ol..err..mature enough to remember carbon faced release bearings, as fitted to older Morgans and others.. is quite the last thing one might wish for as the carbon would wear out in jig time, requiring the gearbox to be removed to replace the bearing..?

Back to the discussion with SJ, at the time, I imagined that such was the increase in traffic jams that more and more folk were inclined to inadvertently maintaining light pressure on the clutch pedal in stop go traffic, thus wearing out excess numbers of release bearings which may have caused a re think on design to a bearing capable of running for if not longer periods of time, perhaps constantly, and thus solving the possible issue...?

On old m/cycles it was ever best practice to have circa 1/8th inch play at the lever end of the clutch cable to minimise wear on the release system..?

As ever more than happy to be corrected in any mistakes I have made in the above... or anything else... (-:

The previous time I rode without a spring for a while. But the feel of the pedal is completely different. Weak / Slack.
You get used to everything, of course, but I feel more comfortable with the spring.

No, I think you are right, the springs of late don't seem to be tempered correctly. My 2010 plus 4 presumably had the original spring still fitted at 7000 miles when I bought it yet in four years I have fitted two. Both looked like yours in that there was no evidence of distortion in the spring just a clean break.
