Why bother with taking off the wheels, I use a product called Dragons Breath wheel cleaner, spray on leave for 5 mins hose off. Cleans perfectly and leaves them bright and shiny. Cheaper than a scissor lift.

Thanks; I use Dragon's Breath too, but I like to be able to clean the inner face of the wheel and the spokes, and find access much easier with the wheels off rather than using angled brushes etc. Also when using a dressing for the inner walls of the tyres. And renewing the grease on the splines. After 16 years still looking good IMHO.

I know where you are coming from in that a couple of years ago I sold my immaculate 110 Land Rover station wagon for just the same reasons. It's not just the work on the car it's all the jacks and axle stands and rigmarole that goes with the job your'e doing. The lift is great but not without some hefting as well, as you need cross beams on a narrow chassis car like a Morgan. Where are you based, I'm sure there would be a local kindly Mog owner who has a lift that would be only too willing to assist you in keeping you both driving and maintaining your car. I posted in the past about starting a sort of buddy system like this but got quite negative responses but I still believe for us (that's me) lone type morganeers that it would be great to have a mate where you help each other to keep on driving the Mog for as long as possible and have some fun in the process too! And to be honest after seeing how a modern day mechanic treats a car, who wouldn't rather share and enjoy the maintenance side of owning a Mog as well! My car doesn't get to see a dealership, Quite frankly at 69 years of age, I'd say for the last 30+ years I have had nothing but hassle when any of my cars go near a dealership, lies, lies and more lies from them and and that's not to mention the damage they cause while it's with them. Yes I'm an engineer but a Mog is not rocket science and are easily fettled. One thing I do more of late is to do the work in smaller sessions. If I'm servicing the car I don't just keep ploughing on, I might just do the fluids one day, the rear brakes another and the front end after that etc.

L.O.W. why don't you follow on with this thread tell the forum where you are based and let's see what comes of it! I'm in North Wales by the way!

Thanks for the positive suggestions. I'm on the edge of the New Forest near Beaulieu, and use a local trusted garage that has worked on all our cars for the past 40 years and now MoT's the Morgan (after a not-perfect dealer experince some time back). Yes I can get out of the Morgan in the garage, although about ten years ago I got stuck in there in my Audi TT Roadster, but that had very long doors and was a right pain to get out of due to the vertical brick plinths. That car went back to the dealership where I bought it, and instead I bought a (narrower) Honda S2000.

Thanks L.O.W. Honda S2000, now thats a great car. You sound a lot like me, wheels off for cleaning, greasing suspension and cleaning and brake issues too. Then there's the rear hub brake inspection before the season as well. As I said I carry out all the work on my Mog and the tin jobbies as well.

I'm sure there must be A mad Morgan lover down near you that has the necessary work environment and willingness to get together for both your benefits. Oh! and what a lovely part of the world you live in down there by the sea and the forest on your doorstep. I spent a lot of time there in my younger days mainly in Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst, Fordingbridge too. Absolutely loved it there although it has got a lot busier in recent years.

Keep an eye on the rubber hardness on the ZV7's Peter. After maybe 5+ years I started to notice loss of grip accelerating even in a straight line on my factory fit ones. I could feel how easily my finger slid over sidewalls compared to new. Fitted Continental Premium Contact 7's after just 6 years. Best work I've done on the car - just check out comparisons wet and dry. Good news they are available in your cars size as well.

Good point. I had the five Avon ZV7 205/55 R1691W tyres fitted in Summer 2022 at c16K miles (on the basis that if they were good enough for the CX cars, they would likely be accepatble for the Roadster) to replace the ageing Toyo Proxes. I'm generally happy with the Avons, but in hindsight when I fitted Dunlop BluResponse's to my previous TVR that was when I noticed a real transformation. So I'll keep a watch on the hardness and reassess my options when next they come up for renewal in say a couple of years smile

I liked almost all aspects of the S2000 apart from I just found the engine TOO frenetic ! I took this photo of the car in Brockenhurst in 2016; Wow where did the time go ? And busier down here nowadays ? -- nah, just that I have memories of when I was at school in Brockenhurst c. mid-1960's, and despite our encroaching decrepitude my wife and I still enjoy walks in the Forest and at the nearby coast.....
love

Just be careful what you use on stainless wheels. After polishing at the manufactory they are given a special finish to keep them bright.I tried Auto Glym wheel cleaner and it ruined the finish, leaving patchy marks that cannot be removed. Luckily it was on the inside of a wheel so I can live with it.
Ever since, I simply wipe down with WD40 !

In my next life I'll have a larger garage ! Possibly a remote greasing kit would make sense too. Anything that doesn't involve crawling around under the car is becoming more attractive. Just out of curiosity, can the CX cars be jacked-up under one corner to change a wheel ?

I have the same problem.
Narrow garage and also think of a scissor lift. But for every problem there is a solution.
I am lucky that the driveway slopes slightly. To polish the rims I start at the top with a wooden block behind a wheel.
When the bottom half is done I let the Mog roll backwards half a wheel rotation and do the rest.
In the past, a jack was used in such a way that I could turn the wheel, but this way is much simpler.
Last week I ordered new tires. The original Avons dated from 2013. And to my surprise the front tires still had just enough tread to be legal. The rear tyres were over the limit. Strange!
Fortunately, once again nearby is a tire specialist who can balance wire wheels. He is not the cheapest but knows how to do it.
And that's where that narrow garage comes into play again.
I always take the wheels off myself and take them to Ronny Tyres.
But in that narrow garage its not easy.

So; on the driveway I knock loose the wheels, roll MattMog Inside, put him on stands and take the wheels off.
