Was thinking that one could use the plug to start with.. it would come off the garage supply so expect 30 amp load.

You can, just need to restrict the charge rate in the vehicle menu to say 13 amps (around 3kW) for safety, and if you have one use an RCD (earth leakage) protected circuit / socket or adaptor

Octopus allow it but only with one specific charge point & certain BEVs. The link is hereHilarious - only works with a no-longer-available charger and 3 cars - 1 a PHEV, and 2 Nissans! What you might call “exclusive”

What you might call “exclusive” A common business problem. You can kill your company by failing to bring new products to market quickly enough. And you can kill your company by rushing to market with a poorly developed immature product. In a fast-changing situation like EV technology this must be a nightmare to get right.

This is why so many innovative products fail to achieve a market presence.
For those who are interested, Geoffrey Moore's book "Crossing the Chasm" is still relevant.

Was thinking that one could use the plug to start with.. it would come off the garage supply so expect 30 amp load. I'm charging with a 3 pin plug, waiting for my charger installation on the 10th of this month. Managing well so far but I plug in as soon as I get home. In the unlikely event that you ran the battery right down I'd think it would take a couple of days to charge fully on a 3 pin supply. Next step, for me, is to decide which of the Octopus EV tariffs to choose.

I use Octopus Intelligent Go but then you need to spend c £1k on a charge point. I calculated that had an 18 month payback.
I tend to run the car down to between 20 & 40% so that the charge needed is large and then IGO decides to charge outside the 23:30 to 05:30 at the same tariif and thus I get 7p / unit electricity during a part of the day.
I also have pv panels & batteries. I charge the batteries at the 7p rate and on sunny weeks like this one I export power at 15p / unit.

Have you looked at Andersen chargers? https://andersen-ev.com/Also, worth looking at Octopus, they are doing a flat price of £30 per month, to charge your EV as much as you want within the given month. Or 5,000 free miles with certain Andersen chargers.

Hi Simon, Yes I have it’s a though call between the S&P and Anderson Quartz. But the R5 is due to be Car to Home / Grid comparable next year and the S&P can be upgraded for this but the Anderson can’t. The 5000 mile offer is good takes £105 off the price but think you need to do 30k miles a year for the anytime to work out better and also want to use the off peak for the house electric Many thanks Will
