Depends on which side of the P&L you're looking at I guess. If I had a chance to get my hands on something that was previously unaffordable then great, but If I had a considerable wedge of value tied up in something that I expected to provide for my nursing home fees, only to find it was worth half that I might see it as a crash.

That was very interesting, thanks for posting. I agree with his assessment that the "crash" is a realignment.

The lovely genuine 3-litre Bentley was featured in the auction preview section of The Automobile magazine this month. The highest bid of £97K was way under the already low estimate of £120K. It makes me just very slightly excited that my budget might yet stretch to a W.O. before I drop off my perch!
These auctions may well provide an opportunity to grab some really worthwhile classic cars.....

It will be interesting to see how the creation and passing of wealth is attacked and taxation increased by successive governments, unfolds in the years to come, ,as clearly it's the only major form of untapped wealth that now exists in the UK, that is not heavily taxed. Be it in pension pots, ISA's, classic car and watch collections, all will succumb to higher taxation and social aversion, to fund the green agenda and help fund /meet the growing benefits cost.

Not only will increased taxation suck money out of the system but it will start to influence and change estate planning and the suitable 'investment vehicles 'and options left open to minimise taxation. We have yet to experience the C change that will come once 2030 arrives and the impact of the eventual closure of UK oil extraction and refining in the UK, as the Green lobby and agenda will bite thru taxation and reduced supply of fuel for fossil fuelled cars. Its only a matter of time before EV's outnumber fossil fuelled cars and the economies of scale work against ICE reducing access to fuel and maintenance facilities. Simple changes to MOT and emission requirements, greater restrictions over access to cities, urban conurbations and the UK road network will force the ICE off the road. Also the size of the ICE market will start to shrink very quickly as each generation passes on.

How long will it be before running an ICE will be seen by society as an antisocial and unacceptable behaviour? I wont be leaving my money in a ICE classic car collection, as I believe we are starting to see a slow but irreversible trend of the ICE demise. Which I think will be accelerated by the advances being made in EV battery lives and the introduction of exciting and more varied selection high performance EV's , more open topped EV sports cars that will leave the traditional ICE for dead. I'm sure that sound effects for ICE drivers will become the de rigor for V8 die hards in their EVs.
