The only part left is the coastal route through Gairloch. Save that for next time.

Got to hand it to you Dave, you certainly know how to pick the best weather for the West coast roads... (-: Perhaps adding a scramble up Stac Polly ( non Gaelec spelling) might be thought worthwhile.. Been there, done that..(-: Looks like the weather might hold for you... Fingers crossed.. ENJOY.. smile

We had a trip over the border into Lincolnshire to visit Wrawby Mill which was open for an inside tour and was also tuning in the breeze

An added bonus was unexpectedly meeting two Mog couples we know & having a catch up

Today was Aboyne over GlenShee, by Perth, and Stirling into South Lanarkshire for a half way stop. That was 3.5hrs. Roads pretty quiet, except for passing Perth. We did the new Tay crossing, which is amazing, but quite honestly, I think I prefer the original east side route onto the M90. Those two roundabouts at Perth are bottlenecks, even on Saturdays. Pics will follow when I get home.

Short drive to Hockham Heath for dog walk followed by lunch at the Chequers in Thompson, showing off its freshly thatched roof.

Two weeks ago we organized our first gathering in Tölz.
Had two nice days and will repeat on April 25th next year, if there should be interest...

Back home, after 1,213 miles and 33.8mpg, which isn't bad at all.

Never has so many flies on the front, despite cleaning the screen before we left Aboyne.

So, a summary. Going North we leave home at 3.30am. No real traffic up the A1M, A66, M6 and a74M. It gets busy at Hamilton Services as we hit the Glasgow/Stirling commuters, but that melts away after a few miles resulting in more deserted roads. We've done GlenCoe a lot, sometimes in atrocious weather but at Tyndrum, we prefer taking a left to follow the A85 to Connel, then taking the bridge (A828). It'a a very scenic route without the hoardes of tourists on GlenCoe.

At Linnhe Marine, there is a large lay-by overlooking the loch, and our preferred stop for a sandwich.

The A828 now follows the coast until you regain the A82 at North Ballachulish over a spectacular girder bridge. Our first stop at Fort Augustus is The Lovatt, located in the centre of the village and the old railway hotel. The car park is excellent and huge, but beware the invisible speed bump when using the first entrance. Only done that once. Use the second entrance. The chef is co-owner, and does a spectacular tasting menu.

This is my favourite spot, with storm cover in place.

From Fort Augustus we skirted the edge of Inverness, the road through Beauly is a better drivers road, although the village was very busy that day due to a car and commercial vehicle show.
Seek out the A833 at Drumnadrochit. The run up the A9 was quiet, but John O Groats was not. Although you wouldn't see that here!

I photoshopped a few stragglers out of this shot.........

After crossing East to West and down through Ullapool, we crossed over the Grampian Ski resort road from Grantown on Spey, it's rather spectacular. The Lecht ski Centre on the A939.......

Intermediate stops at Forss House Hotel, (West of Thurso and good parking) and Eddrachilis Hotel at Badcall Bay, (Average Parking with speed bumps). Those West Coast Hotels sure know how to charge though! Food was excellent throughout.

If you fancy doing the trip and want more info on where we stayed, ping me a PM. thumbs

The weekend in Somerset started off wonderfully as we saw this 3 wheeler ( MOG numberplate) being low loaded down the A303 near Stoke Sub Hamden, as it pulled in to the gas station. Anyone on here own it , looked stunning to me, colour great.
The Cider Barn, at Haselbury P did a cream tea on Sunday for charity and a Morgan burbled through the orchard to add to the sunny vibe. The blossom was still spectacular and the harvest could mean plenty of cider !!!

The Morgan owner was a Cider Barn regular and it was his first Morgan bought from New Elms a year or so back. He & his wife had their priorities right,….House up for sale as he needs a large garage for the ramp he wants to buy. I told him about TM, so hopefully he might ‘join’.

Numbnuts me did not realise that on Monday night the A303 would be shut with a bloody long diversion and to add insult to injury the M3 closed with an equally long diversion . My late night driving theory shattered and nearly 4 hours back to home , plus I had the disappointment of missing 2 Bill Fisher of Mousehole square plates at Lawrences Crewkerne, hidden in a massive China Lot at £30, sold 30 minutes earlier but not marked as sold ! Poor end to a lovely weekend .
Best MM
PS Really like to join you for a full English or even Continental if newbies with little technical knowledge, a non running Plus 8 in the garage , is allowed. Just not sure if we get back from Europe in time and have a West Country wedding on the 19th July
