Hi All, with my 2017 plus 4 GDI engine, have a very slight leak from the rad. Been told by Morgan dealer that I need to replace with an aluminium one. Dealer said he gets the new rad from Morgan itself. I’ve seen ones from Mulfab for about the same price. My question is what is better quality? The one from the Morgan car company or a mulfab one? I’ve had the car for about year and it’s only done 4.5k miles so must admit, am disappointed that the rad needs to be replaced after very low mileage.

I have heard of several failures of the Mulfab version around where the top middle bracket is welded.
When I purchased Si-fab’s model, it was obviously much better made. Sadly, he is no longer in business!

A friend of mine has recently had a mulfab failure and took it to Williams, who found that it could not be repaired successfully.
However, they have recently had a couple made by a different supplier and that is what my friend is hoping to pick up next week.
Maybe worth a call.

I think you are stuck with buying a Mulfab one Niall. Wasn't aware that MMC sold aluminium ones. If that's the case though likely they are made by Mulfab which is the usual after market choice now. Suggest you get price of each first though, but probably better to buy direct from manufacturer.

Regarding longevity remember you have an eight year old car now with the low mileage having less of a bearing.

Are there no radiator repair companies in the UK any more, might be a choice worth investigating! SF radiators were without question well made and reasonably inexpensive, but sadly now gone. I would explore more avenues. I found the aluminium replacement radiator in my Roadster kept the running water temp much lower/cooler than the original rad, which may effect engine management systems.

IIRC Simon made Aluminium Rads for the factory, so wouldn't be surprised if they went to Mulfab in his absence.

Yes, there's a firm in Wrexham I use for my Morgan rads.

Recored my Plus 4 and 4/4 rads with a high efficency core for much less than an ali rad, they've also successfully repaired some of the later Mog rads as well.

Bloke I used to work the doors with worked at Serck Marston and he used to do all my radiator stuff.

Just googled and they are still seem to be doing classic stuff, and advertise some Morgan Rads.

In 1990, I called in at Sercks in Rotherham, They did a recore on my Gilbern. I was building up my V8BGT, and was shocked to discover that they had an MGBV8 brand new radiator on the shelf. That's service.

Recently Coolex made a new radiator for a friends old Merlin car.

Might be worth a chat with Sheldrake and Wells in Ipswich. I bought a secondhand aluminum radiator and they recored it when it developed a leak when hot. Great service from them.

I also have a plastic one in my garage from a 2012 duratec plus 4, that wasn't leaking when I took it off, if you need something to keep you mobile...
