I've had a look through the forum but can't find any suitable info. My Roadster 3.7 will need new tyres soon so I'm asking you Roadster owners out there for recommendations. I have 205/55 16W Avon ZV7 at present (factory fit) but am wondering if there are decent alternatives? Also my tyres are W speed rated - do I really need W or would V rated be adequate? I'm an older driver so don't push the car to the limits.

I fitted Continental Premium Contact 7 V rated in that size late last year Les and very impressed with them. The reviews give them top marks wet and dry. The OE ZV7's started out ok but hardened up after five years such that I was getting wheel spin in third at the slightest sign of road dampness. You could feel the softer rubber of the Conti's even before fitting.

I believe there are several other Roadster 3.7 owners that have fitted them. There are more exotic tyres, maybe grippier still but not in 16 inch size.

I have the same problem. My Roadster was fitted with Avon tyres with V speed index. Since the CoC says top speed is 250 km/ h this ist not legal ( in Germany). Solution was to fit All-Season tyres and put an 240 km/h badge on the dashboard. Driving in summer to Italy will be illegal.
Morgan had solved the problem for some owners and changed some CoCs …

The go-to tyre a few years ago was the Toyo Proxies TR1 for Plus 8's and Roadsters, I had a set on the 3.0 but when they needed replacing Toyo's of the correct size were elusive, so I read lots of tests and went for Continental Premium Contact 5 (think it was 5) they handled as well as the Toyo's and didn't flat spot when stood for a couple of weeks like the Toyo's did

Jon, I think for the 3.0 tyres with speed index V will be fine. But for the 3.7 we need W-index tyres - I wonder if they are on the market.

There appear to be choices in W with Yokohama, Toyo, Michelin

I currently have a 3.7 and having done a couple of track days I'd be happy with V, as a trad Morgan gets quite 'floaty' at the front when your well over 120 - 130, the brakes are also marginal and get so hot that the excess kingpin grease smokes alarmingly when you return to the pits blush

So I'll be quite happy with V for road use legal speeds

The type approval document I have for 3.7 Roadster (modified to include 5 link variant) quotes top speed at 240 kph same as V rated tyre limit. Why would the CoC be higher confused2

BTW Continental Premium Contact 5 tyres were replaced by 6 and now 7 variant. Review and comparisons here.

Thanks for the info guys - it seems V rated will be adequate for my road driving.

The Conti Premium Contact 5/6/7 is favourite. It does come out well in various www.tyrereviews.com tests.

I would be happy if the type approval document states 240 km/h top speed - unfortunately it states 250 km/h. German TÜV (MoT) will not accept summer-tyres with lower speed index than W. All seasons and winter tyres with lower speed index are accepted … why?
