When I rallied my '64 'S' back in the 70's we used to 'screw' the control box to give a higher charging rate, I was running Quadoptics and 2 Super Oscars ok but you had to be careful in daily use that you didn't boil the battery. Happy memories.....

The option of modern LED bulbs has made keeping the old style dynamos in use much less risky

New regulator arrived and fitted. All now working correctly smile Haven't fitted a diode as recommended as I haven't got one and since the demise of Maplin not so easy to get just one.
Note to anyone else needing to change the regulator. Mine was fixed to the bulkhead using two nuts and bolts. It was a challenge reaching the nuts way under the panel so on refitting I used two M5 rivnuts, so much easier.
