Short trip to Tostock near Woolpit on A14 to meet John V6 for light lunch at the Gardener's and see this magnificent bit of steam history, built in 1921 at Ipswich. One of the loudest steam whistles I've heard in a while. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/LtJojwO.jpg) ETA: apologies for doubling up on John's post on CX forum.

Richard, there was a huge steam event at Cromford this weekend, they had a combined 'whistle off' of around 20 units in the arena - WOW !
There were two matching ploughing engines doing a demo, not allowed to actually plough, so they pulled a 12 tonne engine (with it's brake on) from one side to another is if it weighed 'nowt - seriously impressive

Each are positioned at opposite sides of field, in line. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/vqDiGEu.jpg) A reversing plough is pulled first by one engines underslung winch across the field, then reversed and pulled back by the other after each has moved forward, five furrows in this case. A guy sits on one or other seat to steer the plough and maintain parallel sets of furrows. Imagine the power required especially if the field is sloping.

All my photos from steam ploughing are on film. I might scan one or two sometime. Meanwhile if anyone is interested the Steam Plough Club has a web site: https://steamploughclub.org.uk/There are at least a couple of members who are also Morgan owners

K There used to a group of guys that all had them - they called themselves the FWE Club (Effing Wide Engine). I tried to get hold of one a few years ago, but prices were getting silly.

Went down to Bepton yesterday for a catch up with some old school mates, and decided to complete the Trilogy and pop into the new Caff&Mac ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2025/08/10/PXL_20250809_111836902.MP.md.jpg)
