Since my post might not be found in another thread if someone is looking for tyre alternatives regarding their 4/4 in the size 165/80/15, I have started this thread for better search results.

I couldn't stand the very unpleasant behavior of my one-year-old T-Trac2 from Indian production any longer. As I already mentioned, the car shook uncomfortably from side to side between 70 km/h and 90 km/h. Balancing didn't help. Now I've tried a tyre that is actually one of the cheaper options also with the dimensions 165/80/15. This Maxxis Mecotra has some of the best test results for dry and wet grip from ADAC, the German automobile club. It has very good grip, similar to the T-Trac2, maybe even a little bit better. And most importantly, it runs absolutely smoothly and without any nasty sideways wobbling more like the older T-Trac2 did, more like a billiard ball now. I'm also pleasantly surprised by how good it looks. The grooves in the tread protrude more into the side than on the T-Trac2, giving it a more rustic look.

The two year old T-Trac 2 tires on our '64 4/4 do not exhibit any of the issues that you experienced. I love the feel and predictability in spirited driving and can actually steer the car with the throttle when at the limit of adhesion.

I ran a MG ZTT V6 for some years running on expensive fast wearing Pirellis, my tyre fitter said one day "why don't you try these Maxxis, all the boy racers are using them". I never looked back......

1854sailor and Julian BB, do you have T-Trac made in India or in the Netherlands? It is printed on the tyre. My made in India tyres still had the excellent grip of their European predecessors. Except that the vulcanization isn't good. At least my Indian T-Trac 2s had extremely uneven weight distribution and the car wobbled sideways like a goofy car. I hate to say it.
I was one of the first here about 9 years ago to drive the T-Trac 2, and I praised these tires to the skies. As a result, many members here also used T-Trac 2 with the utmost satisfaction. But the last ones from India were just bad.

Do they all come from India now, or can you still get the others?

Mine are made in India, but exhibit none of the issues that you describe. I guess time will tell...

I’ve just looked, mine are Indian.
Perhaps you just got a dodgy batch…..🤷🏼‍♂️

The best tyres I’ve had on a Morgan were Avon CR6zz’s on my 75th anniversary 4/4. They’re a street legal classic race tyre, outrageously expensive but extremely good.

It's good to know that other users have had better experiences with the T-Trac2 from India. Maybe I actually got some from a bad batch.

Very classic and narrow Michelin's XZX 155/80/15 on my 4/4, the best till date! Maybe except the Michelin's XAS, but they are in the classical range these days and are now ridiculous expensive. I had them before they became "Classic". It says made in Siberia, so don't know how that is going in the present Geo-political circumstances.....! Otherwise recommendable!👌
