Hi everyone,
I’m Axel from France.

My wife and I have a Plus Four 75th currently being built. We actually travelled to Malvern last week to see it on the production line and it was an incredible experience. The car should be finished by the end of the year.

We live in the French Alps, and while the roads here stay perfectly drivable in winter, they do spread salt almost every day from November to March. That’s why I’m a bit worried about exposing our brand-new Plus Four to salty roads.

Should we completely avoid winter driving and wait until spring?
Or is it fine to take it out occasionally as long as I wash the car thoroughly after each drive?

I’d also love to know how well the Plus Four is protected against rust from the factory.

Thanks for your help!

I would have it undercoated in waxoil and ACF50, and just hibernate until March.

ACF 50 is your friend, but it will still rust on fastener etc, depends on how you want to keep it.

My 2015 has had no salt by the looks of it (I'm second owner), just taken it off road for winter.

Krazy Horse told me to use ACF50. I drive in winter but avoid salted roads

It would be sad to not use your new car in the winter . Here in Belgium i drive all the year with my plus four but the weather is not so cold . If the roads are salted i drive when it is dry. And try to wash the car later when the temperature is above 0 .

I agree about using the dar in winter on all but the really bad days. Heavy salted roads is the main anti-use reason followed by very icy or severe storms.
The ACF50 is good stuff. Not a one coat wonder but topping up when needed is still required. Speay, brush, impregnated rag depending on the area. You can buy it in a "bulk" bottle. Mine is a 1l bottle. Small spray bottle, paintbrush, impregnated cloth kept in a plastic bag.
Yes the car gets dirty in winter but regular washing is fine. Regular use also keeps things running well,

Definitely! I like to drive my cars, especially the fun ones all year round, no matter the season. Since this one will be new, it’s going to be hard to just park it in the garage and wait until spring 😅. I’ll check with my dealership to see if they can apply the ACF-50 treatment before delivery. Thanks for the advice!

I used to take my vintage & classic cars off the road for winter, I no longer do that. Even in Aberdeenshire there is usually one dry day in the month with dry roads when I can drive them. Better to use them than leave them untouched for months. Even if you cannot get out at least start them get warm & move them in the garage so brakes etc dont get seized up & keep the battery charged.
ACF50 is a short term coating I used it on my M3W frame, engine & front suspension after every wash. Waxoyl is a long term coating that will protect the underside for years. Even so wash the underside frequently

John V6 - regarding the CX being mainly aluminium - which other parts of the car did Krazy Horse recommend you apply the ACF50 to ?

(Axel - I also have a Plus Four 75th edition, now built and awaiting delivery; couldn't get the timing right to visit during production unfortunately).
